Letter From the DME List's Founder. In my practice as a physical therapist, I have seen DME sitting unused in homes, nursing homes and retirement centers. The volume of unused DME grows by the day. On the other end, there are patients who need DME but do not qualify under Medicare or other insurance coverage and cannot afford to buy the equipment. In most cases the patients do without.
