KC8QVO: Nov 19, 2007
http://kc8qvo.blogspot.com/2007_11_19_archive.html
Monday, November 19, 2007. Crappie Pole Pack Antenna, Center Loaded. Hey, it doesn't say I can't catch radio waves on my fishing rod). This is a new creation of mine. The purpose of this antenna is to load up 40m on a compact, light-weight, easily packed antenna using materials I have on hand. The main support for the vertical is a 16.5' long Black Widow Crappie pole. I got it from Cabelas. Here is the coil tapped for 30m. I can't get 40m on this coil, the lowest frequency I can get on is 9.600MHz. My ot...
KC8QVO: Tarheel Model 200 Screwdriver Antenna - Fixed
http://kc8qvo.blogspot.com/2010/03/tarheel-model-200-screwdriver-antenna.html
Sunday, March 21, 2010. Tarheel Model 200 Screwdriver Antenna - Fixed. I have been having some SWR problems with my Model 200 Screwdriver antenna, made by Tarheel Antennas. It is an older one, I believe I got mine in 2002. For the most part it has been a great antenna. I have used it for portable, mobile, as well as base use at some point in time or another. The versatility of a Screwdriver antenna makes them hard to beat in a lot of situations. That isn't the strip I used for the rest of the coil. Weath...

Saturday, December 15, 2007. Thoughts on CW (Morse code). I have been a mostly CW (Morse code) operator on HF for the past few years. I have to admit something though - I have been using a Morse code decoding program for the computer. This has always bothered me - I should be able to copy by ear. After all, it isn't good to be able to yell if you're deaf. To quote the ARRL (from the cover of "Your Introduction to Morse Code"):. Accept the Challenge, Enjoy the Reward". Where is the challenge now? RF Syste...
KC8QVO: 49 States Covered With Snow?
http://kc8qvo.blogspot.com/2010/02/49-states-covered-with-snow.html
Saturday, February 13, 2010. 49 States Covered With Snow? Yeah, that's what I just heard today on The Weather Channel! With the last snow storm that hit the south from Texas all the way through the pan handle of Florida, on to the Carolinas, all but ONE state, Hawaii, has some snow cover on the ground! What happened to Global Warming? I like the snow, though. Lets keep it around as long as we can! Posted by Steve at 7:00 PM. Now you can say that ALL 50 states have seen snow this winter. Even Hawaii.

Saturday, December 1, 2007. Last Upgrade - Extra! I just passed my Extra class exam this morning! Now the only other certification I can get is to be a VE - Volunteer Examiner (which isn't a license, it is a certificate that allows you to administer exams to others). I started the process of that today. Edit 12/4/07: The FCC database shows my Amateur Extra class as of 8:50edt. Posted by Steve at 3:44 PM. Dublin, Ohio, United States. View my complete profile. ARRL Gets A New Website. Sep 20, 2007. Jan 18,...
