Philadelphia Catholic Outsider: February 2012
http://philadelphiacatholicoutsider.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 28, 2012. As everybody knows, St. John Neumann founded our Catholic school system. What's often forgotten is that the first thing he had to do was face the trustee crisis. Only after he established the principle that he had control of the diocese, and not lay parish councils, could he go ahead with building schools. Maybe his successor will take control from the planners, end the school closings, and open some schools. Labels: Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Saturday, February 25, 2012.

Philadelphia Catholic Outsider: August 2013

Tuesday, August 13, 2013. What Should Be Done? A commenter asked a question after the "Why Does St. Joachim Have To Go? Post I wrote an answer, but couldn't get it to appear as a reply to the comment, so I'm putting it here as a new post. Here’s the question: assuming that the archbishop has a specific goal for the number of parishes the archdiocese should have, how should we get there, given the present situation? I’m going to take this question to mean "What should the archbishop do right now? That inv...

Philadelphia Catholic Outsider: What's Behind the School Closing Campaign?
http://philadelphiacatholicoutsider.blogspot.com/2012/02/whats-behind-school-closing-campaign.html
Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Whats Behind the School Closing Campaign? The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies. Robert Conquest’s Third Law of Politics. Now, there’s a good chance that you don’t believe this. Why would the employees of the archdiocese act like that? Aren’t they Catholics? Although most people base some of their. Actions on their concern for others, the. Acting in the political marketplace have.

Philadelphia Catholic Outsider: December 2012
http://philadelphiacatholicoutsider.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 17, 2012. Why Did the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Launch the School Closing Campaign? The employees of the archdiocese who are behind this campaign do not believe that they are failing at running a Catholic school system. They think they are succeeding in achieving goals of their own. There's a short explanation of what's going on here. A much longer discussion of what they are up to, with supporting evidence, here. Labels: Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Nothing is more current than that which is ancient. Sunday, February 02, 2014. Kaitlyn Wagstaff on Choice. I just read about a cool feminist comedian who said she'd like to rip the uterus out of some boring Republican congresswoman from Washington. Frederick was having coffee with me and I told him about it. He said, "I thought we'd gotten all the Republicans out of Washington? If only Fred, if only! If this anti-choice bitch doesn't get her regular abortions, what does she need with a uterus anyway?

Philadelphia Catholic Outsider: St. John Neumann on Who's in Charge of Parishes
http://philadelphiacatholicoutsider.blogspot.com/2013/07/st-john-neumann-again.html
Sunday, July 14, 2013. St John Neumann on Who's in Charge of Parishes. Some people express surprise that the bishop is in charge of the diocese and the parishes, and that "in charge" means "actually in charge." That's just true, though, and it'll be true till the end of time. I don't blame people for not knowing. I blame the people who decided that religious education classes must exclude a great deal of the Catholic Faith. Liberals don't want us to know these truths, so they are buried or ignored in rel...
