The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Tuesday, August 18, 2015. I had a couple unexpected hours to myself this afternoon, so I worked on installing the settee backs. As it turned out, the remnants of 1/2" ply from the settee tops were just enough material to construct the settee backs. First, however, I had to define the location of the backs - including distance off the centerline and the angle of the seat back. With all of these pieces coming together, it will soo...

The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Tuesday, April 07, 2015. James Baldwin recently posted some great videos highlighting his handiwork aboard an Alberg 30. The Alberg 30 Project: July 2012

The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Alternate Part Numbers and Sources. Prepping the Westerbeke for startup involved raiding the spares kit to replace some parts. I ordered two replacement oil filters and a fuel filter element from Torresen Marine here in Michigan for nearly $50.00, but I held off buying a replacement impeller because I thought I could find one for less than $40 for the original Westerbeke part. I saw 40 psi at startup, a...

The Alberg 30 Project: More bulkhead tabbing

The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Sunday, August 02, 2015. I fired up the Westerbeke the other week just to ensure that it still runs. I keep fearing that I'll go to all the trouble to get the boat back together only to discover that I don't have a functioning diesel engine! That would be terrible. The diesel is sounding good and runs well. I'm looking forward to the day when it's sitting on a new engine bed and pushing Tradewinds through the water.

The Alberg 30 Project: Cleats and settee tops

http://www.alberg30project.blogspot.com/2015/08/cleats-and-settee-tops.html

The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Sunday, August 16, 2015. Cleats and settee tops. I wandered back aboard the Alberg today and decided to install the cleats for the port and starboard settees on the bulkheads at either end of the berths. I used some 2.5" pine and SS screws. Once the cleats were in place, I had to trim the settee tops slightly to fit within the space due to the addition of the fiberglass tabbing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Sunday, March 22, 2015. Refit considerations and priorities. http://svnatalieb.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-trailer-for-natalie-b.html

Thursday, August 20, 2015. The Trailer for Natalie B. So I had the axles replaced, I added fenders and I reinforced an area between the axles and the receiver where there was a butt joint weld in the 5" C channel frame. I replaced the tires, added two spares, replaced the 2x12 that the keel rests on and gave it a paint job. I was happy with the results. The final addition was a weight distribution system with dual cam sway bar control. Apparently, the thing to do, is self medicate and go bowling. As you ...

Saturday, January 24, 2015. How far can curiosity take you? Today I was listening to an old podcast of the TED Radio Hour from September 2014, titled James Cameron: How Far Can Curiosity Take You? Much of what James Cameron had to say reflects my drive to explore places I've never been, especially places only (or most easily) accessible by water. Which is what has inspired me to restore and dream of eventually cruising our own sailboat. Monday, January 19, 2015. Sunday, January 11, 2015. Refit considerat...

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Natalie B National (road) Tour. We traveled through 21 states, 17 of which I had never visited before. We dodged tornadoes and flooding in Texas. We got to spend a little time relaxing in Destin FL where we attended the wedding of a close family friend on the beach. We surely overstayed our welcome in Oxford PA trying to get the boat on the trailer (thanks Howard and Ann and Bob's Crane Company). A video is forthcoming. Finally arriving home, four days late, but safe and sound.

Alberg 30 sailboat project

Alberg 30 sailboat project. This Blog will chronicle the complete restoration of an Alberg 30 sailboat. Saturday, August 11, 2012. The inflatable dingy we used as a tender was getting a little threadbare and since it had no motor, it severely limited our options for use. An inflatable can be very difficult to row in the trade winds. I decided to build a nesting dingy and after a little research online I settled on the Chameleon nesting dinghy designed by Danny Greene. The next day we split the halves and...

Thursday, March 19, 2015. Ladder in the boat. I got to the boat and put all the parts back together. The motor cover supports also got a strip of the ocume ply so everything matches. The feet holding off the ladder need some felt pads so they don't scratch but other than that this project is done. Saturday, March 14, 2015. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Finally, it's March! Magic #16

The good, the bad, and the ugly restoration of Magic, a 1962 Alberg 35 sloop (hull #16). Wednesday, April 29, 2015. I have been picking away at finishing the forward hatch though, and I decided to get all artsy and see if I could do an inlay. I've never really done inlays before so I cracked open the interwebs one night and found some good youtube videos by ' The Apprentice and The Journeyman. Monday, April 6, 2015. Junk rigging an Alberg 37. Welcome to Alberg 37 Junk. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. July 17, 2014. A recent comment on the web-log reminded me that I have been neglecting it for close to a year. I suppose I have been waiting for positive sailing news but the truth is I’m still farting around with the engine and propeller. The Good – Junk Rig. The Good – halyard renewal. The Bad and Ugly – Propellers and Engines. The Bad – waiting for a new propeller and shaft. We hauled the boat out in June to see what...
