Allie's in Stitches

Sunday, May 10, 2015. And a Garden Tour. I have been busy for the last 4 months preparing and then submitting a book proposal to C and T Publishing. For my third book with them. It is with great joy that I can report that the proposal has been accepted! This is why I have posted almost no work since the beginning of the year, and why I will also have to keep what I'm sewing on under wraps for the rest of this year too. I hate that part, not being able to share what's happening! Posted by Allison Aller.

http://alliesinstitches.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 30, 2015. The Joyful Embellishments Stitch Along Series. I love being published but the downside is that when I am working on things for future publication, I can't blog about them. So you haven't seen much of me here on the blog lately. But the Joyful Embellishments Stitch Along, hosted by my co-author and dear friend Val Bothell over on Facebook, is purely for the personal pleasure of it, so I'll be posting my stitches once a week here. Here is the quilt top:. Posted by Allison Aller.

Allie's in Stitches: March 2014

http://alliesinstitches.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2014. Quilt for Oso: Layers of Hope 9/11. I've spent the last 5 days making a bed quilt to be donated to someone needing comfort and support- and warmth- in the community hit by the mudslide in Northern Washington state. I'm just calling it the Oso quilt. I got my fleece at my local discount store for ten dollars: a good price for what is essentially both backing and batting. The blocks are to the right; the fabrics I pulled are to the left. This quilt came entirely from my stash. As al...

Stitching With Attitude: QUIRKY COLOUR NAMES

http://stitchingwithattitude.blogspot.com/2015/06/quirky-colour-names.html

Tuesday, 23 June 2015. In my previous post, I mentioned about colour names and the vast number of colours available to us. Fifty Shades of Grey is just a drop in the old bucket! Perhaps because I work with colour so closely on a daily basis, the massive number of colours and colour names does not phase me that much. Matching them up is another story! Just how do these companies come up with these names and we have often wondered just WHO is responsible for the task? Http:/ www.slate.com/blogs/the...So it...

Second Star South: September 2014

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 13, 2014. Insects Again, I Guess. So I've had this Bird of Paradise bush for about five years now, first in a pot, then planted next to the house. It never bloomed - until just this past month, apparently. Notice the big chew holes in the leaves. I haven't seen what is eating it. However.. Take a look-see at this cocoon, or whatever it is. Now there is some architecture to that sucker! Looks like it's made of tiny sawed-off sticks, not more than 1/4 inch long. There were more than 45...

Second Star South: Your Morning Smoothie

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2016/08/your-morning-smoothie.html

Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Hmmm, I am not in love with my new phone - my peach smoothie looks much peachier in real life - fresh peach, a few red grapes, vanilla yoghurt, pecans and some orange juice. I've been loading up my freezer with lots of fresh fruit since a smoothie a day is good for the soul, and these peaches are fabulous right now. Here is my freezer drawer at the moment:. Second Star South: August 2014

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Picked up the makings for a new project, identical twin bed quilts to brighten up Mum's newly painted guest room. Ma had turquoise on her mind for her new room (wood laminate flooring, white walls) and these colors will make it nice and bright and cheery (please don't judge by my crappy photos). I have both tops done now except for a bit of a 3 or 4 inch white border, then we'll bind it in a darker turquoise, I think. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Second Star South: July 2016

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Here are some pictures from our visit to Moab, Utah and Arches National Park. Jamie, Isabella and Evie walking down to the Colorado River. At Arches National Park:. Our sketcher, Evie - she's becoming quite the geologist. She has a rock tumbler and some serious-looking rock-hound equipment. They take weekend adventures looking for cool rocks. When I zoom in you can see this guy standing down there playing. So beautiful and a little eerie. Natural acoustics! Saturday, July 9, 2016.

Second Star South: November 2014

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. With some misgivings, I decided to knit Ruthanne a sweater for school. She attends Christ the King Pre-School, wears a uniform, and needed a plain black cardigan. I was determined to face my fear of seams. Don't you just love pre-school pictures? Here is cutie-pie Marcus leaning over the car seat. I am putty when he turns those big brown eyes my way. So, the sweater. I studied and studied various knitting tutorials on the internet and, ta-da! Even the underarm is fairly neat.

Second Star South: Oh Lucinda

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2016/06/oh-lucinda.html

Thursday, June 30, 2016. Now I'm after that back highway. And the longest bridge I've ever crossed. No lie, I generally have a Lucinda Williams song running through my head. I have loved her voice ever since my brother Doug told me her recording of. She wrote it, after all) was better than Mary Chapin Carpenter's cover. So when I started looking at routes through Lousiana and Texas I knew there were a couple of towns we had to breeze through and a couple of lakes to cross. And look for my joy.". Evie's l...

Second Star South: Road Trip, Anyone?

http://secondstarsouth.blogspot.com/2016/06/road-trip-anyone.html

Saturday, June 18, 2016. Road Trip, Anyone? James probably knows the exact mileage, but that means nothing to me - I need the visual. From Lakeland, we drove state and county roads north through Florida following the Big Bend Scenic Byway - very pretty. This is along the roadway in Apalachicola:. 65279;Apalachicola was also the home of a store that I have been searching for ever since I moved south. My first Piggly Wiggly store! We stopped for the night in Biloxi, Mississippi, right along the beach.
