赤毛のアン をご存じですか 今から100年以上前に、カナダのプリンス エドワード島に 住む、ルーシー モード モンゴメリという作家が 書いた物語です。 真っ赤な髪を三つ編みにしたアンという少女が、 孤児院からプリンス エドワード島に住む兄妹の元に やってきました。 兄妹は男の子を希望していたので、 女の子のアンが現われてとまどいますが、想像力豊かで おしゃべりなアンの不思議な魅力は、大人の心も和らげて、 その家で暮らすことになります。 子供向けの物語と思われがちですが、原作の英語は 書かれた時代のせいもあって難しく、内容も考えさせ られたり、泣いたり笑ったり、と大人になって読んだ方が 真価がわかるといえるでしょう。 世界中で翻訳本が出ている 赤毛のアン ですが、 日本での人気は特に高く、若い女性を中心に愛読されて きました。 そんな 赤毛のアン がはじめて出版されてから、 今年で100年を迎えました。
