Broch, Crannog and Hillfort: May 2015
http://mitchtempparch.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Broch, Crannog and Hillfort. Saturday, May 9, 2015. Artist's impression of the Roman Londinium, looking at the first London Bridge. The muddy channels and islets in the foreground are the site of today's Shard. Human activity over the centuries has, of course, radically altered the natural contours and riverside, but the hills would have been more prominent to Roman eyes than might be supposed today, since the Thames is now at an appreciably higher level than it was in the first century. Agricola had to ...

Broch, Crannog and Hillfort. Divination Shrines - Armenia. Monday, June 8, 2015. Smith and Leon found examples of different types of divination. Knucklebones of bows, sheep and goats were found in Gegharot, indicating osteomancy (the practice of divination through the study of bones). “You would roll [the bones] and depending upon whether the scorched side or the marked side came up you would make a different interpretation,” Smith said. Each one-room shrine contained a clay basin that held ash and ceram...

Many of the items discovered on the site have not been seen before anywhere else in the world and thus are the first of their kind to be discovered.

Broch, Crannog and Hillfort. Hymns of stone I. Monday, November 17, 2014. When the first sarsen stone was raised in the circle of Stonehenge, the land we call England was already very ancient. Close to the village of Happisburgh, in Norfolk, seventy-eight flint artefacts have recently been found; they were scattered approximately 900,000 years ago. So the long story begins. More likely, they were part of a shamanistic covering to enter the spirit of the deer. It might have been an early form of morri...
