Chapter 21: The Thaw is On. This entry was posted on March 31, 2012 by archaeologyhughes. It was filed under Uncategorized. The mark of a true archaeologist: excitement about burned bricks and grotty pottery. Not much else, but I wanted to let you know I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog. April 1, 2012 at 14:25. So enjoy your narration of the happenings in Georgia. How exciting to have found the artifacts. BUT need more pictures. Smile. I love you son, Mom. April 2, 2012 at 13:06. Build a website wi...

Chapter 16: In which I attend my first international conference. As some may know, my dissertation project is part of a larger survey effort being carried out under the direction of my advisor Prof. Christopher Ratté. The National Museum invited Prof. Ratté and his team to present on the work being undertaken around the site of Vani. As Prof. Ratté was unable to attend the conference, I had the honor of presenting our work to the gathered audience. Here are a couple of shots from the conference:. The pre...

Chapter 13: In which I celebrate my first Hogmanay. Fragment of the beard of the Great Sphinx in the British Museum. The clock tower in which Big Ben resides. It was a particularly wet day with dense fog that created an eerie quiet about the town. The castle sits on a prominent hill giving it its legendary defensive advantages. On the way up, we passed by a graveyard that, with the fog, was like something out of a horror film:. Lit torches in Parliament Square. Me and me torch. Torches in the twilight.
Chapter 18: In Which All Systems are Down | Ryan in Georgia
https://archaeologyhughes.wordpress.com/2011/08/11/chapter-18-in-which-all-systems-are-down
Chapter 18: In Which All Systems are Down. The 24th happened to be Easter morning and the family I was living with kindly brought me a traditional Georgian Easter meal. And yes that is a bottle of wine behind the tray. It was incredibly generous of the family to share their food with me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I was finishing up dessert, the music playing on my computer stopped and that most dreaded of images came on the screen. Oh what’s that computer? Let me help you find it. I know I have bee...

Sunday, May 29, 2011. The park, the zoo, and a much needed haircut! Things are in full swing around here! The days go by sooo fast together, but there are lots of fun moments in each one of them! I am still working, so both boys are going to school during the day. Joshua just graduated from kindergarten this past week, so he starts SUMMER CAMP tomorrow! Well I've posted a lot of pictures of what has been going on. Enjoy! Nightly story time with dad. The Milligan's loaned us this ADORABLE outfit! We ended...

The Hughes': January 2012
http://lifewiththehugheses.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 9, 2012. Time to get caught up again. Especially before this little one arrives! To start, Nolan is now just shy of 19 mo old and is all boy! He keeps me running, which is good, but at the same time loves to cuddle and has really started to do a lot of pretend play. He can pretty much get any message he wants across to us (not always an unfamiliar listener), and does not forget a new word! Yesterday we drove past the Starbucks I usually stop at and he said, "Mom- coffee? Nolan loves to be...

The Hughes': Ainsley's Birth Story
http://lifewiththehugheses.blogspot.com/2012/05/ainsleys-birth-story.html
Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Here's how her story went! I had been feeling crampy off and on but nothing too alarming. We went first for the ultrasound but she was so big, it was pretty impossible to see what anything was! Dr Box came in pretty quickly after the ultrasound and said- well kiddo- you're going to have a baby today! My fluid levels were lower than they wanted to see, and therefore, baby had to come out! I think we both felt excited but anxious at the same time! After all the fun paperwork and bas...

It had been well over a year since I had been home to Nebraska, but Nolan and I made the trip this past week. It was great! Jon was in Haiti for a week, and I knew it would not be good for me to be home, in my normal routine, missing him like crazy! It was a great getaway for that reason too! On Friday my mom took ...

The Hughes': August 2011
http://lifewiththehugheses.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 15, 2011. Last Friday Jon left a bit early from work (after a terribly long week) and met us at the State Fair. I was so looking forward to seeing Nolan's reaction to everything and it was even better than I had imagined! I would be remiss not to mention how extremely sad we feel about everything that happened just one night after we were there and that we have been praying for their families. Doing soooo great at walking. He loved the sheep- he would imitate their noises. Holding on to mom.

http://lifewiththehugheses.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 24, 2011. Hi Guys. Sorry for our long absence. With work, it is a bit more challenging to take photos, download them, and then put them together on here. I hate that I have not been as good about taking photos. When I was home, there was usually at least one picture a day! I do my best though! We are doing pretty well, especially now that we are all finally feeling better. I feel like the month of February was full of sickness and snow! Jon often comments about how he misses having me ...

http://lifewiththehugheses.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 4, 2011. I am once again pretty far behind and wish I would have posted this a long time ago. Nevertheless, it's pretty special. Nolan turned 1 on the 15th, however, we had his bday party the weekend before. It was such a special week for him and everyone loved on him and spoiled him like usual! We had a family lunch at Pappy and Gimi's house. Jon's aunt and cousins came from northern Indiana and spent the day too. It was great! Daddy and his bday boy. A good ol game of Duck Duck Goose!

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Army Crawl and A New Word. Nolan has not quite yet mastered crawling but this is how he's getting by. It makes me laugh every time! And he's been liking a new word lately. :). I guess I'm on a trend of posting once a month now. I remember when I used to have time to post once a week! Then I think. what did we do that we had so many pictures or things to talk about. :) Well, we sure are busy now. Celebrating with Gimi and Pappy. The best part was getting new, fluffy pillows!

Chapter 22: Letter from the Front. News since my last post:. 2) We have surveyed two 4km2 grid squares with both intensive and extensive survey. We have started in our third and should be done with it by the middle of June. Hopefully we can complete two more grids giving us a total of 7 grids. My heart was set on 8, but the enormity of this task is beginning to set in. I now totally understand all the curly hair jokes they made on 30 Rock. Curly hair is a curse.
