Living. Growing. Loving. All in a Word. January 26, 2016. Who are you at the deepest level? When Jesus looks at you and loves you, who does he see? What is it which truly makes you come alive? Is God inviting you to take a risk and to go deeper? Society of Saint John the Evangelist. At least, for these past few days or weeks. Or has it been months already? That’s a word. And that scares the bejesus out of me. (Pardon the expression.). Which probably means it is one of the truest things that I can do.

Living. Growing. Loving. May 30, 2014. When I agreed to go to a preaching program, I truly had no idea what I was getting into. Bring a sermon, your prayer book, and a Bible, I was told, so I anticipated sermon feedback and worship And hoped there would be helpful, practical workshops. For some, they’re stuffed full of the poetic comments and commentary. For me, I’d beg for another. Some voices I could listen to all day, and others I would rather read myself. You may also like. Jesus navigates the politics, evading the trick question by going through and beyond it. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not? They ask him (Mtw 22:17). Jesus confounds them by saying, Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s (Mtw 22:21). Not an easy one.

Calendar Lust | Every Day Simple

Living. Growing. Loving. July 26, 2014. The past couple of weeks I have been looking at new calendars/appointment books. The inkling coincided with back-to-school shopping, and I’m as bad as anyone else about wanting to get something new to mark the transition into another school year. In my current well-worn book, dates are marked for the upcoming semester for the three different school calendars; helpful notes are in the back pages. I have a good thing going. Yes, it sounds like me, but, no, it’s...

Living. Growing. Loving. January 29, 2016. It finally came out. Experience has taught me that splinters do work themselves out, or, rather, that our bodies efficiently work to remove foreign objects, using white blood cells, I imagine (for I haven’t looked into the science of it). This splinter, however, has been content to remain in place. Subtle. Non-imposing. There’s no inflammation, no need to be concerned. Just wait. But it doesn’t belong on me or in me, so it bothers me to see it. All in a Word.
