Assembling Imaginations

Thursday, August 6, 2015. Evaluation: A Functional Adult? Yesterday*, I turned nineteen. It's Friday where I am. When I was a kid, I remember thinking that nineteen was a weird age because you were a teenager and also an adult, and you were probably in college (which I couldn't visualize at all), and it is a prime number in between two very respectable composites, 18 and 20, which are both multiples of squares. Nineteen is also the color of Fig Newtons. As I've gotten older, I've become more conscious of...

Assembling Imaginations: What I Will Miss

http://www.assemblingimaginations.blogspot.com/2015/08/what-i-will-miss.html

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. What I Will Miss. As promised, the companion to last Friday's post on what I miss. At this point I only have three weeks left in Indonesia. It's been a great summer thus far and I'm going to miss a lot of things when I leave. Being treated like a young professional. Time to read and write. Writing: I don't write as much as I did last summer because I work now and when I get home I don't want to get on the computer again right away. But I've gotten a fair number of words down,...

Assembling Imaginations: May 2015

http://www.assemblingimaginations.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 26, 2015. This weekend, I went to a good friend from high school's Arangetram. The Arangetram is the solo debut of a dancer of the Bharatanatyam form of Indian dance, one of the most ancient dance forms. It goes back to around 1700 BCE, and used to be performed only in temples. I cry frequently at moving or emotionally charged performances. If you know me IRL and this seems weird to you, well, it seems weird to me also, especially since I don't think I cry more easily at sad things. Chinese ...

Assembling Imaginations: A Functional Adult

http://www.assemblingimaginations.blogspot.com/2014/08/a-functional-adult.html

Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Tomorrow, I turn eighteen. Legally, I will be an adult. It doesn't feel that way. I'll still have over a month to go before starting college, I'll still be on my parents' taxes as a dependent, and I'll still do stupid and childish things. The third of these statements is the one that concerns me. My brain won't stop developing for another few years, and I still am a teenager, but I want to start the process of becoming a functional adult sooner rather than later. Which says that ...

Assembling Imaginations: December 2014

http://www.assemblingimaginations.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Year in Review: 2014. Looks like we made it through another year. In 2014, I finished high school, had the longest summer ever, and began college. Because of that life jump, from high school to college, I feel a greater sense of disconnect than usual from the me who started the year. I've become more comfortable this year with the idea that I am a self-centered, arrogant, ambitious person. Probably because college has expanded my horizons. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Like a Bird This Story Flutters Around in My Chest (Worldbuilding Prose). Wednesday, December 21, 2011. I have a story inside of me waiting to be written. This is a realization that is all-together exciting and terrifying, but mostly exciting. When I think about this story I am filled with joy, but this story comes out of me not in a torrent but as a leaky faucet. Here is a droplet from that faucet:. The man gave a curt nod as he rose from his prostate position at the king’s feet. “Your m...8220;I cannot...

April 2011

http://alexaliteration.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 28, 2011. Since I've been writing poetry since long before I started this blog, I'm going to post older poems as well as new stuff. Here's a little gem from the very beginning of the school year, back when I thought I was good at writing poetry but actually wasn't (as opposed to thinking I'm good at writing poetry and actually being good at it). This was my audition for my high school poetry slam team. Somehow I managed to make the team. Anyways, enough gab. Here's the poem. Inhabited onl...

No Poem Today, but. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. I'm thinking about doing a poetry contest! Would anyone be interested? There would be a prize, something like a custom poem or picture and a feature of your blog, whether you write poetry or not. Post here if you'd like the challenge. I'll prolly do it once a month with a different theme or muse each month. Also, to avoid bias, I'll probably look for someone or two someones to help me judge. PS I'm going to a funeral, hence no time for a poem. :P. EVEN MORE OTH...

Tuesday, September 20, 2011. That is to say, I'm going on a short hiatus until the end of October, because marching band and school have gotten the better of me, and it's unfair to make my readers constantly check to see when I've written a new post. :). Math on the Brain is Never a Shame. Inspirations A Play on Geometry Lessons. Wednesday, September 14, 2011. In Other News: I'm getting published! My 900-word life story. Is being published this month in an anthology of local life stories! I love to share.

I Write a Sonnet

http://alexaliteration.blogspot.com/2012/01/i-write-sonnet.html

I Write a Sonnet. Tuesday, January 3, 2012. I don't know how Shakespeare did it. Sonnets are hard! I mean, I could barely squeeze this one out, so I hardly can imagine how Willy wrote hundreds of them. I would probably die. Free-verse is more my thing. But then again, it seems everyone these days is doing free-verse. I'll be a non-conformist! The reason I wrote a sonnet? A Statue of Two Soldiers in New York City. Forgottens stand still in a sea of sick motion;. The pigeons hop dumbly from statue to other,.

Darkness

http://alexaliteration.blogspot.com/2011/12/darkness.html

Tuesday, December 20, 2011. I stood outside in the dark for ten minutes at two in the morning. Here's what came of it:. There‘s a certain silence that follows the dark around like a little brother. It wraps itself around your legs and covers your ears as if to say “Guess who.” It stuffs your ears with cotton balls until all you can hear is the rush of two-a-m-travellers on distant roads, the roar of tired pilots landing their planes on the lighted airstrips. Can they who have not seen know light? How I f...

The Man of My Dreams Is a Tree?!

http://alexaliteration.blogspot.com/2011/07/man-of-my-dreams-is-tree.html

The Man of My Dreams Is a Tree? Wednesday, July 13, 2011. In other news: I'm feeling a little better, all. Inspiration has once again sprung forth, and I also couldn't wait to share what I've been working on the past few days. I realized that the reason I was feeling so yucky about blogging was that I had a set schedule that was putting way too much on my plate. Hence I have decided to throw out the whole posting schedule, and am now going to post once or twice a week. Have you ever had a dream in which ...

Ah, But There Are No Excuses For What I Have Done. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. All the same, let's not jump to conclusions. These weeks preceding the start of school have been on heck of a ride, which is why most of my readers have assumed my death (well, so I assume). But as my seventh grade science teacher once said:. When you assume, you make an * * of u and me. She swore in class, and our young minds were scandalized. To this day I have yet to recover. She was kind of mean. B Days: AP Literature (I sti...

Assembling Dusts.... | Collecting pieces from life

Collecting pieces from life. Challenges the youth is facing. March 9, 2015. March 3, 2015. I always complain about how difficult my life has become; how people have been giving me hard times; how I have been struggling. However, I never did realize that if my life was really hard or I was having hard times, I would not have the time or the energy to rant. Instead, I would actually be working to make things better. What irony is this! The difference between ‘not like’ and ‘dislike’. February 18, 2015.
