A Wandering Traveler: March 2010

http://awanderingtraveler.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. The Music of Memories. In a recent blog posting by a fellow traveler, she put forth thoughts of what she “liked”. I liked the following bit very much. It’s a bit funny to me, ‘cause I was just thinking about that very thing a few days earlier, although in prose not quite as elegant. It remains one of the most powerful forces on this earth. It does the following:. I, being a lover of most things music (Rap and country excluded), have such a libr...

A Wandering Traveler: Consuming Beauty

http://awanderingtraveler.blogspot.com/2009/08/consuming-beauty.html

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. Tuesday, August 4, 2009. One line of the song said this:. You can consume all the beauty in the room, baby. I know you can. I've seen you do it.". No matter how many times I listen to this song, that phrase always strikes me and always sets me to thinking down the same well-traveled path. Am I like that? Do I come waltzing into a room and, like a black hole in space, suck all the life and beauty from it? Does the chatter quiet down, gazes avert and subjects change? Somet...

A Wandering Traveler: February 2010

http://awanderingtraveler.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. Thursday, February 11, 2010. 8220;They caught my eyes.the trees bedecked in white blossoms. They were lovely, lacey like a cotillion frock.”. 8220;I love that the trees cling to their frocks of cranberry, plum, fire, and tangerine days and weeks and months on end.”. I wonder why that is? I feel like the guy sitting on the couch in the Snickers commercial wondering where all his hunger goes after he takes a bite of a Snickers bar. (It ends up somewhere in Germany.). 8221;...

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. Wandering the local farmers market here in Jacksonville, arm in arm with my first-born, was a restorative experience for my soul. In our daily lives of processed this and pre-made that, the elemental smells and beautiful colors of row upon row of freshness has a way of reminding me of the necessity of simplicity of life. Standing amidst the scent of produce and the hustle and bustle of commerce makes me pensive and introspective. I am hoping this year will be one in whic...

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. THE TRUE AIM OF LIFE. With my ears full of personal stereo speakers and my mind ruminating on issues and theology a little to large and deep for me to grasp on the first playing, I am continually amazed at how much there is for me to absorb, process and put into practice to become a brighter light for the Kingdom of God. Sometimes I feel like I’ve made so much progress in this daily battle to conquer self and the passions. I have a long way to go. Lord Have Mercy! A marv...

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. TWO VIGNETTES OF THOUGHT. I was hard at work, lost in thought, in the hot, humid, dirty, dusty, concrete-grey warehouse with a bunch of other stinking, sweating men, programming some ATMs. Without notice of any kind a deliveryman breezed through the warehouse holding a vase of beautiful roses and lilies, not doubt headed for one of the females in the air-conditioned office. All without the flowers saying a word. Are we like that when we come into situations and places?

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. THE SMELL OF INCENSE. I love the smell of incense. The smell of it hits me before I even walk into the front door of the church. It instantly reminds me that I am home. The ethereal tendrils of white smoke that rises, curls and wafts upward symbolizes our prayers, the prayers of the faithful and faithless, those searching and those found. Let my prayer arise in Thy sight as incense. And let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice. It causes me to pause and ask.

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. Lately, I have been feeling my age a bit more. No, not the usual aches and pains in the morning or the restless sense of things incomplete. This goes deeper. A few things crossed my path recently that really made me pause and take stock of where I am in my life. This one was a doozie. I have opportunity to get a do-over, even if the do-over takes years to restore to rightness. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have Mercy on me, a sinner. September 18, 2012. November 4, 2016.

THE VISITOR « A WANDERING TRAVELER

Gentle Musings and Wild Rantings. A few Sunday’s ago I found myself waiting patiently for our church service and Divine Liturgy to begin. I felt a peace and was expectant in my anticipation of entering into worship. I glanced to my right, scanning the crowd of others waiting quietly and there she was. Although I never met her I knew instantly who she was. Deborah, do you know that is? I whispered excitedly to my wife. No she said. Do you? They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like me. Realizing...

Company of three, black peppermint tea. 8220;The Company”. December 13, 2013. Ahh this blogging rustiness. A Wandering vein

Thursday, September 2, 2010. Writing is a little like gardening. The thing to do is start. Get out and dig. Most of the time I put it off. The start is usually where I don't know what to do or where to go and I'm stiff in the bones and my heart is dull, but, there's the element of curiosity, wondering where it will go, where it will take you. Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Our protestant neighbors however, residing across the nuclear moat, known as the Irish Sea, are host to three varieties of native snakes&...

Looking for a place where its wine and me belong together.
