A Year On The Fly

Have Your Fish Painted. Monday, December 14, 2015. Corona In Her Favorite Spot" Watercolor. Here is yet another piece of art from my backyard. Simply put it is my dog in here favorite spot, soaking up the heat of an early morning sun as it crests the roofline of the house you cannot see. There is a lot going on in this seemingly simple painting but I will let you interpret it as you will. I again apologize for the poor quality photo. Corona In Her Favorite Spot". A Year On The Fly: At the Desk Tying Trash Flies

http://ayearonthefly.blogspot.com/2014/10/at-desk-tying-trash-flies.html

Have Your Fish Painted. Wednesday, October 8, 2014. At the Desk Tying Trash Flies. The other day I was looking over a few fly tying books at a book store and came across one called Fly Patterns by Fishing Guides. With 200 flies used by guides all over the world I thought that this would be a great addition to my collection of interesting books on fly tying and promptly bought it. I bet when they see this rushing past them on a drift they will rush it like a linebacker. The four or five wasps I pulled...

Have Your Fish Painted. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Are You Missing Strikes In Your Caddis Box? How diverse is your Caddis pattern box? Does it just have a few elk hairs or is it stacked with a wide range of flies of all colors and material? Well if it doesn't have a wide range of different patterns and sizes of these abundant flies then you could be missing out on even more fish. Sunday, February 22, 2015. The Grey Sulphur: April 2011

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 27, 2011. After the Rain. Some Shad Fishin'. I don't think so. Last Saturday, the western part of the state received over 5 inches and every little creek was a swollen, angry mess. A lot of that extra water eventually made it's way into the James River and then on down to Richmond. The river crested this past Monday at almost 70,000 cubic feet per second, which is just slightly above the average for this time of year of about 7,000 cfs. For their size, these fish are some of the best figh...

The Grey Sulphur: December 2011

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 31, 2011. Choose your fishing partners wisely! You're having a fine day working your way up a favorite creek with a trusted fishing buddy. And hooking the occasional little fish. You pause to look upstream and quickly survey the spots on this little stream that are most likely to hold a nice trout. You spot a nice pool up ahead and know that a good fish has to be living there. You think: It's a good thing we're friends. Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Small rubber legged stonefly nymph:.

Sunday, February 12, 2012. The New House - Progress Pics. February 13, 2012 at 10:29 AM. When you only have that much, it looks sooooo small, you have a hard time figuring out how youre going to get all the rooms in that space. Theyll fit, though. February 13, 2012 at 3:46 PM. Mark, I was thinking the same thing. I looked at it and thought, I paid how much for this tiny house? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Grey Sulphur Archive. A Nice Little Sunday. The Grey Sulphur: February 2012

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 27, 2012. A Nice Little Sunday. I stopped by to check out the house progress on my way out to the Park this Sunday. Things are moving along pretty well. Most of the siding is up and it won't be long until the outside of the house is done. Things look pretty much the same on the inside, although they did install the tubs and showers. After snapping a few pics at the new homestead, I made my way out to the Park to enjoy the blue bird day. Water levels were pretty much perfect. Feeling less...

The Grey Sulphur: June 2011

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 6, 2011. A Weekend of Bluegrass and Brook Trout. I had the good fortune to spend the weekend at the Graves Mountain Festival of Music, where I spent some quality time with the old man. We enjoyed some fine bluegrass music and, since the festival was just outside the SNP boundary, I snuck away and chased some brookies as well. The mountain laurel was in full bloom and was an added bonus. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're do...

The Grey Sulphur: Back Where It All Begins

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2012/02/back-to-beginning.html

Saturday, February 4, 2012. Back Where It All Begins. After those first few months, I learned a few things:. 1 A 9' 5 weight rod is WAY too big for the tight quarters on these little streams. B Trout aren't likely to eat dries when the stream is half iced over. 4 Rubber waders suck. Cookie cutter 6 - 7" fish provided pretty good action as I made my way upstream. They were hunkered down on the bottom and I had to go deep with heavy flies. After seeing that from the bottom, I had to climb up there and get ...

The Grey Sulphur: July 2011

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 1, 2011. Spring Creek Season Has Begun. As Spring turns to Summer, my thoughts turn from little mountain creeks and brook trout to placid valley spring creeks and the big browns and rainbows that reside there. It's still a little early yet but things are off to a good start this summer. The stream is in good shape and the trout are actively looking for beetles and grasshoppers. Even the fall fish have developed a taste for hoppers. Sometimes they just won't hold still. A blog dedicated to ch...

The Grey Sulphur: January 2012

http://greysulphur.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 29, 2012. Obviously a return trip was warranted and I figured it should be a little better today. On that trip we came in the from the bottom on a pretty sketchy road. Since I was already up on Skyline Drive today, I started the long trek down in there. Things looked a little more promising this time around. And the fishing turned out to be pretty decent. The scenery was nice although not quite as dramatic as the ice sculptures I remembered from last time. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Saturday, February 18, 2012. Now it's starting to look like a real house! February 18, 2012 at 10:26 PM. Its so much fun building your dream home. You cant take enough pictures. Its looking good. February 19, 2012 at 3:40 PM. Thanks Mark. My dream home would be right next to one of the spring creeks in Montana, but this will do for now. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Monday, May 30, 2011. Thanks to all of the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in defense of our country. May their sacrifice not be forgotten. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Springtime on the SoHo. It should be noted that I like to bust my buddy Cronin's chops (the big man) and he actually caught a ton of fish. Just not while I had the camera running. He has this river dialed in like few people do. Just sayin'. Saturday, May 14, 2011. And watching the herons stalk little fish is kinda fun. But I p...

A Year on the Farm

About "A Year On The Farm". Mixed in with the neighbour's herd. January 15, 2009. This is definitely not. The sort of thing you want to see on a hot summer's day; our cows wandering through a gap in the hedge to mingle in with the neighbour's herd! Our neighbour and us had to spend a couple of hours in the hot sun sorting through the herds and getting any strayers back onto the correct property. All-in-all it wasn't as bad as it could have been and was actually a good excuse for a chat. The bulls wouldn'...

A Year On The Farm | the story of our farm, season by season

A Year On The Farm. The story of our farm, season by season. March 20, 2013 by Julia. Spring has sprung, and farm life is busy. It has been busy for a while, really, with calving season now almost finished. It has been a good season, with only three losses so far and well over a hundred calves born. One mama who had twins last year– and nursed both– did it again! We are quite proud of that mama! Cocoa, the mama donkey. Sniff, sniff… got any hay in there? Rosemary and lemon balm. Sunset over the shed.
