Back to School

Sunday, 9 March 2014. I have now been teaching for 6 weeks and boy am I exhausted! I am exhausted but am loving every minute of being a teacher. Thinking back over the first 6 weeks there are a few things I would like to reflect upon. 1 There are not enough hours in the day, week or, I suspect, year! I am going to have to keep developing my systems and put in place ways to get everything I need to get done, done. Back to School: Time to get serious...about blogging!

http://www.backtoschool-jane.blogspot.com/2013/09/time-to-get-seriousabout-blogging.html

Saturday, 14 September 2013. Time to get serious.about blogging! It has occurred to me a few times during this final year of university, my final year of being a pre-service teacher, and while following so many dedicated and inspiring teachers, that I should revisit my blog and contribute to the ongoing conversations about education. Conversations that I listen to and at times take part in, not only in the blogosphere but in the Twitterverse as well. This is the kind of teacher I want to be. Creating Vir...

Friday, 25 March 2011. Too drab to learn? A couple of times this week, the learning environment has been brought to my attention. Firstly Matthew has blogged about it in this post. Matthew pointed me to this article. By Denise Ryan about the design of learning spaces. Here, the schools that are being praised for their design incorporate " easily altered spaces, with hands-on and outdoor areas integrated into the learning spaces. My guess is they also look good. We learn greatly influences how well. In cl...

Back to School: 4 years...completed!

http://www.backtoschool-jane.blogspot.com/2013/11/4-yearscompleted.html

Tuesday, 19 November 2013. About 5 years ago I was looking for direction in life and thankfully I returned to my dream of becoming a teacher. I made the decision to apply for uni and on the recommendation of my son's teacher applied to UTS. To my relief I was accepted! When I started uni I thought I would be the oldest person by many years and would not make any friends. I was SO wrong. I was not the oldest person (but just about! Back to School: October 2013

http://www.backtoschool-jane.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 14 October 2013. First 3 days as a professional. Last week I had the great pleasure of teaching my first 3 casual days. I got paid and I loved it! I went into a school I had never been to before (thanks to a friend from uni) and had the privilege of teaching a class who had not had their regular teacher for at least 6 weeks plus the school holidays. It was daunting, exciting, invigorating and heaps of FUN! The one thing that I was very relieved about was how welcoming the staff at the school were.

Welcome to the land of technology: April 2011

http://jannaweber.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Welcome to the land of technology. Sunday, 24 April 2011. Facebook or face to face? Social networks have become more and more popular over the last few years. At the beginning, I was rather sceptical of them and with my great fear of privacy issues I was one of the last in my group to join facebook. And I only joined to say in contact and share photos with my friends in Germany and Australia. I soon began to love this new technology and used it regularly. Thanks to this flickr'r. By Lamb and Johnson and.

Welcome to the land of technology: May 2011

http://jannaweber.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Welcome to the land of technology. Tuesday, 31 May 2011. When we got our first computer with internet in year 8, I was extremely excited but also worried. My parents had lectured me that being online is just like being in the city by myself and that there may be lots of security problems that we don’t know about yet. So when I set up my first email account, I ensured that I would use the highest security settings, just in case. Internet security. Up until today, this was a huge concern for me. You are a ...

Welcome to the land of technology: Stop it now!

http://jannaweber.blogspot.com/2011/06/stop-it-now.html

Welcome to the land of technology. Friday, 3 June 2011. Bullying has taken on a whole new dimension with today’s use of technology and I am very concerned about this topic as I’m not too sure on how to handle it. Last week, I was introduced to a great website, cyberbullying. This site raises awareness to cyber bullying and educates students in an innovative and interactive way about the safe use of technology and what to do when being bullied. Welcome to the land of technology. Sunday, 29 May 2011. You are a teacher, your small budget has been cut. you have one piece of software and it needs to go to the five computers you have for thirty kids. It's against the law to copy it. What would you do? This is really tricky, as I believe that it is my duty to educate children, so I would be really tempted to copy it. This is a really challenging question! Back to Saturn X. Big Thanks to Manfred Mann for Blinding my Ass (or opening my eyes, whichever the case may be). I hated this song as a kid.
