March 2014): My most recent project seeks to examine the culture of mourning. In October of 2013, our family lost a man we all cared about a great deal. That event continues to stun me, and it's caused me to consider the ways in which we as a culture have grieved- over time and across countries- as well as how we tell our own children about death. I've also written a chapbook called The Recent History of Middle Sand Lake. That deals with a loss via Alzheimer's. By Mary Jo Bang. The Year of What Now.

I am interested in the juxtaposition of parenthood and writing (mainly poetry), which is why I started Balancing the Tide: Motherhood and the Arts an Interview Project. I'm more interested in what others have to say, so here is a humble but growing list, some resources where those two worlds are combined in the best of ways:. Not for Mothers Only. The Grand Permission: New Writings on Poetics and Motherhood. Blue Jay's Dance: A Birth Year. Great With Child: Letters to a Young Mother. By Beth Ann Fennelly.

This time, what could it have been- AWP was approaching and then what? I don't know why these selves cannot co-exist. But if I'm passionate about one, I'm all in, and the other collects dust. Sunday, August 10, 2014. We've been talking about moving next summer. We've been talking about my applying to Ph.D programs in creative writing. I've been fantasizing about being a student (and teacher) again, about sitting with a sheaf of syllabi and plotting out the weeks of a season. For now, though, if we are. We've got here for just a while longer, and this may be my last August as a resident. Who knows what the future might hold! I love that you put your wedding dress on in the poetry room.
