Rag & Bone: September 2013

http://barebonesart.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Sunday, September 22, 2013. The Next Flag Iteration. You ask. Well, I had the bright (? As you can see there is even a timer to set for exposures and drying times. So, supplies are the only problem, but there are several places on line from which to order, so I'll give that a try and report later. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Next Flag Iteration. Rag & Bone: February 2014

http://barebonesart.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Sunday, February 23, 2014. I thought the tail was a dead giveaway, but alas, no one else I came in contact with agreed. So, under a coat of paint she went. The end product is pretty lack luster and not near as comely as my chick, but there was a deadline and this could not go on forever. The final submission was:. Next was our move to the remaining rooms of the studio, where we were to reside for a week. I thought, "This will be a piece of cake!

Rag & Bone: A Little of Everything

http://barebonesart.blogspot.com/2014/11/a-little-of-everything.html

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. A Little of Everything. The origin of the sign is unknown. It was something that the younger brother, Len, had at his house in Salmon Creek, Idaho. When Len died his widow gave it to Mr. Lucky and he brought it home. So, we don't know whose handiwork it is, nor do we know its age. All we know is that now it is looking good and will hopefully last way past us. November 26, 2014 at 8:50 PM. Rag & Bone: Startled Starling

http://barebonesart.blogspot.com/2014/12/startled-starling.html

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Tuesday, December 2, 2014. When we left off we had two transparencies ready to expose. We exposed and then had: 2 exposed plates which I'm sure I photographed, but can't find and so we're moving to the next bit. First, the background plate was inked. It may be hard to determine in this photo, but the dots are an aqua blue with a lime green surface roll. Two stencils were cut, one with the bird, and the bird. (Sorry, I forgot to rotate this one -).

Rag & Bone: FOUR!

http://barebonesart.blogspot.com/2015/01/four.html

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Monday, January 26, 2015. There has been little or no printmaking taking place around here while waiting for a broken shoulder to mend. The break was in mid-December, so we are pretty much healed and ready for rehab. Physical therapy (aka Extreme Interrogations of muscles and ligaments beyond what any human is expected to endure) starts this week. I am such the wimp. Which explains it all. And then came 0:. Guess I should do the sketch first. I love...

Door Ornament: The King of the Jungle - Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2008/02/25/door-ornament-the-king-of-the-jungle

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Monday, 25 February 2008 by David Harrison. Door Ornament: The King of the Jungle. Conventional wisdom says to burnish the transfer. But conventional wisdom doesn’t own a hydraulic press, so there! One minute and six tonnes later I had a perfect transfer. I’d already darkened the surface of the block with a mid-grey Copic Sketch Marker. The alcohol-based ink doesn’t fluff up the wood like water-based highlighters can, so it’s perfect for the job....The woodblock...

Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/page/2

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Tuesday, 13 February 2007 by David Harrison. What we did on our winter vacation. In keeping with the ‘post it late’ ethos, here’s mention of an early January visit to the National Art Gallery. I had little idea what to expect. From the outside the whole place seemed rather aggressive: warplanes, tanks and whatnot. Turned out it was the wrong place. The gallery was further along the street. I recognised Kefallinós’s work from a marvellous book given to me s...

Racking Up A Fair Clip - Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2008/04/05/racking-up-a-fair-cliop

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Saturday, 5 April 2008 by David Harrison. Racking Up A Fair Clip. Forgive the title. At least it proves that, with sufficient effort, any two figures of speech can be nail-gunned together to form a meaningless headline…. So what about making my own? From the army surplus store. I used needle files to bore out the beads until the cord would fit. For this you need a small needle file and something really, really interesting on TV for the next few hours.

More Joy of Scraps - Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2008/02/26/more-joy-of-scraps

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Tuesday, 26 February 2008 by David Harrison. More Joy of Scraps. Scrap stores are our friends. Our local one, Orinoco Scrapstore. I think these tools are sold for engraving metals, but it might be fine for wood engravings. It certainly left some nifty marks on a small piece of endgrain wood I had lying around. The tool sells for around 8.00 new so this was quite a bargain! I wonder if they have a burin lying around somewhere…. Amie Roman – Burnishings.

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Sunday, 24 February 2008 by David Harrison. Little prints for little people. You might know that my daughter Poppy (a.k.a. Kalliope Ann Rose) was born last December. Here is a picture of her, looking all sweet and relaxed. Don’t believe it for a moment…. I doubt the cognitive tools are there just yet. But who knows? http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2007/04/17/kept-in-the-dark-and-fed-on-ink

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Tuesday, 17 April 2007 by David Harrison. Kept in the dark and fed on ink. This weekend I had my first pop at using a maple block. My, but it was dense! Last year my uncle and cousin visited from the States. During their visit we went to Belas Knap. Write your thoughts about this post. Be kind and play nicely. Tuesday, 17 April 2007 at 21:41. The Joy of Scraps - Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2007/02/26/the-joy-of-scraps

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Monday, 26 February 2007 by David Harrison. The Joy of Scraps. This weekend was fruitful. On Saturday morning I drove down to Oxford Wood Recycling. Just before I left I joked about how handy the nice metal table would be — just right for propping up my press! From there it was on to the Oxford Orinoco Scrapstore. On Sunday we forgot all about printmaking and went for a walk along the Ridgeway. The stretch near West Isley was wet, cold and windy, and as beautifu...

One step forward, five back - Olansa Cuttings - David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive

http://blog.olansa.co.uk/2007/02/23/one-step-forward-five-back

David Harrison / Printmaking / Archive. On Friday, 23 February 2007 by David Harrison. One step forward, five back. Last week I finally decided to cut a wood block. OK, a small piece of shina. The design was based on a close-up photo of a beetle that somehow ended up on the net curtains of my office last summer. I sketched out a design and left a thick border to about 6″x8″. This evening I tried a few more proofs on the Japanese paper (no idea what type — the label fell off! I don’t know. It&#8...Just to...

Rag & Bone

One artist's journey through the valley of Printmaking. Thursday, December 3, 2015. Since it is officially the Peace On Earth season what could be more fitting than to put the Peace in Print up on the wall? I have a better table for the book and will take that in tomorrow and get it all set up right and proper like. It will probably end up under the sign and poster and the small print bin will move someplace else. If I can remember I will take photos tomorrow night -. Here are those kids again! I'll be e...
