Saturday, June 19, 2010. Hey, finally getting caught up. I'll start with some details and pics of my hotel, followed by a bit of writing and my day. Breakfast every day if I want (some tours have it included) and great internet. Here are some shots:. Oscar provided the entire day in both Spanish and English, quite an exhausting feat, let me tell you! Here is where we had breakfast, tortillas, eggs, juices, watermelon and gallo pinto, the national dish of red bell peppers, black beans and rice (very good).

Friday, June 18, 2010. Poison Frogs and Dog-Like Apes. As we neared the coast after a winding road we crossed the tarloces river, where crocodiles bathe and bask in the sun (no rain on this day! A tree nearby the trail was slowly being dismantled by leaf-cutter ants who were marching on their own highway through the forest to the big nest (where the leaves are chewed and put in a fungal garden to harvest mushroom-like growths). On our way to the hotel down south in Manuel Antonio we stopped at NeoFauna, a butterfly/snake/frog place way off a dirt road from the highway. Here are some examples of their rescue animals (they educate the local community on how to not fuck with the wild animals of the nearby areas). Some are treated and released. Actually this is the Caribbean green and black poison dart frog. They go on forever.
