Some adventures in art-making. Please visit the archives or my website to see finished work. Salmon Books and Bitches Brew. It's a misty, moisty morning in Southwestern Manitoba. I'm listening to Miles Davis and slowly assembling the last four copies of my salmon book. The grey weather and the focus required to cut and fold with precision carve a special, contemplative space out of the middle of the week. So much has happened in the nearly three years since I printed this little book.

I've been playing around with eel imagery for months now, knowing I would soon be collaborating with my sister on an eel poster series, incorporating my images and quotes about eels from Mi'kmaq Elders who have helped her in her thesis research on eels. It has been a time of experiments - but of squeezing art-making into the early morning hours, the evenings and the weekends. The sun setting over the construction zone across the street from our compound. We are surrounded by construction. Doha has some amazing, opulent doors. This is not one of them! A daily blog challenge to create something everyday in any medium. Saturday, 30 January 2010. A view from the 18th fairway towards the final hole. A view of another one of the 18 lush fairways between patches of desert at the Doha Golf Club. I won't lie - it's been a bit of a week. And I did find it a challenge to switch gears from 'mama to a sweet but sick little girl' to 'artist' after 4 nights of broken sleep. I was able to pop into the studio to continue work on the tentatively titled, " autumn.
