REAL MOD: May 2014
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Closet Storage Systems: Elfa vs. Rubbermaid vs. Closetmaid. While closet systems might not be the most mod thing I can imagine, they definitely meet the criteria of those who pioneered modern design: readily available materials used to affordably benefit the masses. Recently we stayed in a vacation home in the mountains. While the home was a little more “contemporary” than what I tend to. So let’s get this out of the way...

REAL MOD: January 2012
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Monday, January 23, 2012. The Holiday House Model “X” Geographic. I’ve always loved airstreams. Who doesn’t? 160; But THIS. Now THIS is a truly unique and incredible trailer. The restoration cost around $20,000, and the trailer has since been sold (Sept. 2011) to a buyer in France and shipped over seas. The selling price? 160; Undisclosed, but Azadmard says it went for as much as you’d currently pay for a house! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

REAL MOD: April 2011
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Saturday, April 2, 2011. I am wild about funky shaped bushes outside of midcentury houses. Some of my favorite shapes are called Cloud, Pom Pom (or Ponpom), The Platter, and Swirl (not so much the Spiral, in fact, not at all). There are a lot of really great specimens in the neighborhoods of Colorado. I will try to get some pictures of my own soon, but for now here are a few I found on the web. Cloud (this is simply fantastic). 160; I scaled back my...

REAL MOD: June 2013

Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Replacement Insert for Midcentury Crane Faucet Handle. Crane sinks ruled the well appointed Midcentury bathroom. UPDATE] The little wooden/pressboard inserts are original to the faucet (not a Jury Rig). When examining carefully, you can see the word “top” imprinted on the insert. That would be $.44 to ship instead of $10 or more. I just went ahead and ordered the whole thing, so I have the other parts if I ever need them.

REAL MOD: Cork Flooring (revisited)
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2014/04/cork-flooring-revisited.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Sunday, April 13, 2014. On the topic of cork flooring, but having recently replaced several panels due to a popped compression fitting under the sink and a resulting lake in our kitchen, I feel like I have more knowledge on the topic now that could be very useful to others. Floating floor type system, so the problem was not really an issue of the. As far as maintaining the floor, this stuff really is a miracle (I picked up this can at Lowe’s):. Consid...

REAL MOD: Cork Flooring
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2011/08/cork-flooring.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Monday, August 29, 2011. My biggest concern with cork floors was how it would wear with heavy traffic, mainly from a 90 pound Doberman-Rottweiler. I am happy to say we made it through 3 years with hardly a scratch. However, when that guy passed away [sniff], and we introduced our new 80 pound Boxer/Pitt love to the home, it’s been a different story entirely. Still, it bleached evenly, and I don’t mind the lighter tone, so considering how much ...

REAL MOD: April 2015

Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Thursday, April 30, 2015. 8220;Organic” (not Roundup) Weed Killer. Our midcentury modern home has nearly an acre of xeriscaped gardens (most original to the house). This means we have a lot of gravel and rock where weeds love to try and grow. For a while I was using Roundup to take care of the weeds, but then I did a bit of research into glyphosate (what Roundup is made of), and was appalled at what I found. 1 gallon white vinegar. 1/4 cup dish soap.

REAL MOD: How to Fix a Squeaky Platform Bed
http://realmod.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-to-fix-squeaky-platform-bed.html
Mid-century modern and modern design for real humans. Tuesday, July 16, 2013. How to Fix a Squeaky Platform Bed. We scored a fantastic, vintage King Size teak platform bed recently at a local vintage store. Like it any time we rolled over or moved in any way. I agonized over a fix for days, until the solution finally came to me in a dream. Seriously. It came to me in a. Whatever. I’ll take it. Better than nothing. So that night I tried it. Right before I did, I thought, “I’m an i...Hopefully the next...
