The Wisdom of a Pediatrician. The Heart of a Mother.: December 2013

December 12, 2013. Turn Those Christmas Blues to Gold. What is it about Christmas that makes us so sad? I was speaking with a priest recently when I went to EWTN to film Life on the Rock. Father Mark looked at me after half an hour and said, “With so much pain and sadness out there, how do you stay so hopeful? 8221; I simply looked at the cross on his wall and pointed to it. 8220;Easy,” I said. “We win.”. The Wisdom of a Pediatrician. The Heart of a Mother.: Bullies Run: Beth Maday Is On the Loose

November 26, 2013. Bullies Run: Beth Maday Is On the Loose. Jeremy told me that he has never been so happy. The entire football team (with a history of being state champions) asked Jeremy to be their media person and he travels with them to all of their games. Beth Maday told me that seeing Jeremy at school is a real delight. “You can’t believe how much kids like Jeremy” she said. “They encourage him and look out for him.”. 8221; she queried. “Is someone giving you a hard time? Participate. One stude...

The Wisdom of a Pediatrician. The Heart of a Mother.: Does France Protect Their Girls better than we do? It appears so
http://drmegmeeker.blogspot.com/2013/10/does-france-protect-their-girls-better.html
October 29, 2013. Does France Protect Their Girls better than we do? The French Upper House of Parliament just voted to ban beauty pageants for girls younger than 16. The reason? My hat’s off to them. How is it that we, who champion equality between the sexes and pour millions every year to educate our children’s minds, keep these ridiculous pageants alive? First of all, is it morally acceptable to watch a small child on television in order to laugh at her? Are we so empty that we have resorted to findin...

April 17, 2013. The Boston Tragedy: How to Talk to Kids When Bad Things Happen. If your kids are in elementary school, I suggest doing the following:. Don’t wait until they come to you. Kids are listening to the television and to their friends talking so they are thinking about the bombings. Initiating discussion won’t put ideas or fears in their minds, talking them through will help alleviate their fears. Talk about good and bad. Give them something to do. If your Kids are in Junior High or High school:.

The God Who Sees Me: May 2013
http://thegodwhoseesme.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
This time of year brings a heightened awareness of changes in our lives - especially the losses. We're facing: Separation after graduation, friends moving across the country, new jobs. We're experiencing that here in our tight-knit little Family Talk Broadcasting department right now, as in the past few weeks alone we've said goodbye to three key staff members - each of whom is moving on to embrace new family commitments. And in one short week, I'll join that group. Song of Solomon, chapter 2:. 8220;Forg...

8220;What's So ‘BASIC’ About This Health Care? As the mother of four, I’ve personally had dozens of pre-and post-natal check-ups and hospital visits. Likewise, I’ve been to multiple doctors’ offices, ER facilities, labs and clinics with my children, and yes, even had to call 911 twice. In addition, my father is a retired orthopedic surgeon who was forced to relocate his practice and his family coast-to-coast because of skyrocketing medical malpractice insurance costs. Ironically, a 2008 study of women in...

Standing Strong with Alex McFarland: True or False: God is Real, Part 2

Monday, October 21, 2013. True or False: God is Real, Part 2. Every Effect Has a Cause. So the question up for debate isn’t whether the universe has an origin, it’s who—or what—prompted that beginning. Imagine you’re sitting in your living room, enjoying a peaceful afternoon while reading the paper. Suddenly, a baseball flies into the room, shattering your window. Obviously, your first question wouldn’t be, “How did that get here? 8221; It would be, in a highly bothered tone, “Who did this? Watch a sunse...

The Fatherhood Challenge: September 2012
http://thefatherhoodchallenge.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
I’m not a prude. My engine runs like most red-blooded, testosterone charged men. By God’s design, we are driven by a natural attraction to the opposite sex. And, we are biologically and emotionally compelled by sensual and sexual content. For those reasons, there is no denying that sex sells. But why are we allowing strangers to sell sex to our kids? As a desensitized culture, every day we are. Fathers, I ask you: Are we burned out, clueless, or just plain naïve about what is happening under our watch?

Getting on the Field. I wish I had all the answers. Maybe you’re like me, some days wearing regret for my shortcomings and failures as a father like a trenchcoat while jogging on the sun, and other days feeling I own the sun and it’s brilliance when I get something right. The truth is, no matter whom you are, being a father is a challenge. Perhaps I don’t really wish I had all the answers to conquering the fatherhood challenge. After all, what then would I learn? Maybe you have some of the answers?

Cinderella. The Day After. I felt a bit like Cinderella the day after the ball. I had just returned from the annual National Religious Broadcaster's Convention at the delightful Opryland Hotel in Nashville where I was treated to three days of extravagance, excitement and warm, rich relationships with dear Christian friends. A definite highlight of the year. So I should've seen it coming. The world might call it boring. Tedious. Something to avoid at all costs. Love the One You're With. It's the juggle we ...
