The Skinners: in the "big kid room"
http://theskinnerhouse.blogspot.com/2015/07/in-big-kid-room.html
In the "big kid room". Since moving Jake's room around to make it more toddler friendly, we've been spending a lot more time in there. (He now refers to it as his "bigkidroom"- one word, just like his "bigkidbed". He's so proud! So he likes to store his coloring books and crayons inside the desk. This afternoon I finally got around to packing away the clothes he's recently outgrown. I tried his jacket from last year on again (because its a 3T so I thought surely.) and to my surprise, he kept the ...I als...

Coming in at two-foot-six. As you can imagine, trying to not only measure Jake but to take a picture of measuring Jake was a two-person, fifteen minute ordeal.but we were successful! Let's just stay all summer. We played with chalk, threw frisbees and played bocce ball, rode the new tractor all over town, and paddleboarded down at the lake (plus some scraping, sanding and painting, because no trip to Port Hope is complete without some house projects! A week in Guatemala. I didn't expect to wake up each m...

Beginning A New Book. People often speak of life in terms of chapters. We close one chapter, one season of life, to begin another. While I agree, certain phases are certainly chapters, I tend to think of life more often as a series of books, made up of several volumes. Chapters within individual books within one big series. So if preschool, elementary, middle, and high school years are all chapters; Childhood or Adolescence may be the book they comprise. Ah yes, we’re just getting started. To be honest, ...

I started reading the book " Raising Your Children With No Regrets. You're our favorite kid in the entire world, J. We love you too much! Fall at its finest. We've lived in this house for three years and last night was the first time I've ever raked our yard (I didn't even realize we owned a rake! Making himself at home at the Lane's / throwing leaves in the river / strolling in the park / shopping for a new winter hat (those ears! Next up was our church's Trunk or Treat event on Sunday night. The Skinners: September 2014
http://theskinnerhouse.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
So long, summer. We braved a not-quite-so-extreme heat wave the other day to "celebrate" the first day of fall at one of our favorite parks. 16 months and the first fall day. A little about Jake at 16 months:. These past couple months have been some of my favorites. He's such a perfect mix of baby and kid now, still cuddly before bed and babbling away, but also putting on his own shoes (okay, just his Crocs, but still! Proud of himself after learning to standing the book upright. I hope Jake's love for b...

Deric is the funnest and most caring dad I know, an incredibly helpful and loving husband, a hard worker and a faithful disciple of Jesus. He brings our family so much joy and we love to celebrate him every year! And he shares his sweet tea on his birthday. Only the best dads do that ;). Sarah and Drew's shower in Charlotte. It's hard to believe the next time we see Sarah and Drew, they'll be proud new parents! I hate to rush through a gorgeous fall but I'm ready for December 1 to arrive! Loves to bring ...

Yesterday we celebrated five years of marriage! Five years that have gone way too quickly, probably because they've been so enjoyable. Most of the time its hard for me to remember what life was like before Jake, when it was just the two of us and we could go on dates any night of the week. Those three years were so fun, yet I love Deric more now as I watch him grow into his role as a father. What are we eating tonight? Labels: just the two of us. I'm very proud of his excellent decision-making skills....

The Skinners: April 2015
http://theskinnerhouse.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Pretty much every single one of my monthly Jake updates has started with "I can't believe he's already (1, 6, 12, 14.25, etc) months old" so I'll have to come up with a new opening line. Or just a cute picture. Everyone knows about the "terrible two's" but unfortunately, the terrible-ness has been appearing a tad bit early around here and I don't prefer that. Jake is still his usual happy and very sweet self but with an edge of anger if I don't walk/drive/turn "ISH WAY! Every time I attempt a picture, ev...

The Skinners: too many hours in the car with a two year old
http://theskinnerhouse.blogspot.com/2015/07/too-many-hours-in-car-with-two-year-old.html
Too many hours in the car with a two year old. Mom, Jake and I made the drive from Knoxville to Michigan by the skin of our teeth. Jake made it within seven miles of Port Hope before he just couldn't take it anymore, so that was a pretty successful trip. Throughout the trip he would say "Mommy, I need something! At dinner we faced off in a game of Checkers. Jake's strategy was um, unique, but considering I always lose, what do I know? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Just the two of us. Template image...
