Life and happenings of one family in Okarito. Saturday, May 29, 2010. Had a fantastic two days in Hong Kong. The contrast between it and Okarito is amazing - it certainly amazed Monty. Right from arriving at the airport and taking an underground train from the arrival gate to the immigration section. Then the airport express to an undeground station,an into a tidal wave of humanity as it was rush hour. Monty had only ever been on three trins in his life and two of them were steam trains! birding; a way of life
Birding; a way of life. Sunday, 16 August 2015. Letham has come to life again with just enough of an edge to pull in waders. On thursday there were 5 Ruff, 1 Black-T Godwit, 1 Dunlin, 21 Snipe, 2 Water Rail and a White Wagtail. This morning the Ruff had increased to 8 and a Whimbrel flew over. The real highlight though was a fantastic Otter that spent over an hour fishing oblivious to me. Ferryhill is proving to be a good place for passage Tree Pipits, this bird took a quick rest on the overhead wires.

Birding West Campus
Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Fall migration is a great time of year and it's also a horrible time of year, at least when talking about the casualties from birds colliding with windows. But this time, the same sad story we repeatedly tell has a happier ending. While there are some issues with an installation like this to deter collisions, it seems to be working quite well. The silhouettes sides are mostly facing out to break up the reflections, the tree in the window is still a reflection. Birds from day...
Birding West Coast
Accommodation costs so little. On Saturday, March 10, 2018. My main habit is always to sleep at home via Couchsurfing (click to read the article on the subject and find out more). So yes I hear some moan in the bottom. It is true that we do not enjoy total comfort, but on the other hand we earn much more! And if you travel, is it to meet and see something other than what you have around you every day? Of course I do not use Couchsurfing everywhere! For example in Asia accommodation costs so little. That ...
