Book #8: Ray Bradbury Stories. I bought this book at the Science Fiction Museum in Vancouver, on a total and complete whim. There were plenty of books in the gift shop. Why didn't I stick with some more recognizable Bradbury, and just buy Fahrenheit 451? Answer: it wasn't there. But it's on my list.) I'd like to think it's because I'm trying to keep this Cannonball challenge as diverse as possible, and I couldn't resist a few (dozen) short stories. The Whole Town's Sleeping" (1950). I'm afraid if I think...

Book #34: Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde. Confession: the shine has been gone from Harry Potter. For me for a while. Spare me your letters. But now, I've latched on to a new brand of YA fantasy! And it's written by Jasper Fforde! So last time I did this I just wrote a list. And if the things on that list didn't convince you to give The Eyre Affair. A try, how about this - in this one, you don't even have to know the plot of Jane Eyre! Lost in a Good Book. 3 (Practically) Everything is a pun. Lesson...

Book #23: The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. They say you shouldn't move on to your next Cannonball book without writing your thoughts about the one you've finished, and I've been pretty faithful to that. Except this time. I'm pretty nearly halfway through Jane Eyre. Now, and I still haven't written this piece about Atwood. But, because what's done is done and I cannot move forward without writing this, and I happen to be having the most productive day I've had all month, here goes. Was how epic it w...

Book #20: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. One Hundred Years of Solitude. Examines one hundred years of a village (Macondo) and its inhabitants - specifically the lives of one particular family and their descendants. I had a hard time with it, despite how much I liked it. Posted by M.e. Book #19: Frank Sinatra, An American Legend by Nancy Sinatra. I should mention that this book is pretty exceptional. It provides monthly and sometimes weekly. Entries on the happenings in Frank Sin...

Things That Should Be Said. I was more hurt than angry. I am still hurt. I have good self awareness. I am usually happy or looking tired. I am single but not looking. I worry all the time, about everything. I am still heartbroken about not having a dog anymore. I fear I am losing the relationships that are most important to me, and that it is my own fault for not budgeting time for them. I am finally realizing how much of a commitment school is. I have a hard time talking about it. I am just upset.

Book #28: Little Children by Tom Perrotta. Sarah (feminist/Starbucks employee turned mother) reads Madame Bovary. With a book club. She suggests an opinion regarding Bovary's infidelity - that she is simply struggling instead of conceding to her oppressed societal role. The comparison is obvious. And whether or not your opinion overlaps with Sarah's pretty much determines your judgement of Sarah herself. It should be mentioned that I read Little Children. Posted by M.e. Book #27: Wicked: The Life and Tim...
