Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Monday, November 29, 2004. According to The Mercury News. Of San Jose, CA, the Cardinals are still in the hunt for the Big Unit. The Cardinals appear to be offering Reggie Sanders in a package that probably includes 26-year-old first baseman-outfielder John Gall, who hit .292 with 22 homers at Triple-A Memphis.". Sanders, on the other hand, is signed somewhat cheap, and played to expectations in 2004. Granted, R...

The Cardinals send Braden Looper, Armando Almanza, and Pablo Ozuna to the Florida Marlins for Edgar Renteria. In an effort to win the World Series before Y2K ended the world as we know it, Walt went after a young shortstop with a championship in his portfolio. Edgar Renteria - 109 Win Shares (6 years in St. Louis). This trade is a classic exampl...

Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Wednesday, December 29, 2004. I've been dragging my feet in regard to writing my thoughts on the David Eckstein signing. Personally, I was expecting the announcement of his double play partner to be announced by now as well, allowing me to discuss both at once. However, since it's now been almost a week since the David Eckstein era began, I decided I'd better get to it. So - is that true? Which I might add is a grea...

Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Friday, October 21, 2005. I actually was fortunate enough to go to Game 6 on Wednesday night, thanks to a friend who got tickets and offered me an extra. ("Well, I'll think about it.") We were sitting 12 rows behind home plate and were so jacked about the game that we got there more than 2 hours before game time - in plenty of time to see the Cardinals take batting practice. Look for me to finish up the Walk Jockett...

Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Thursday, September 30, 2004. While it's impossible to predict who the Cardinals will be playing in the first round, it is still interesting to look at the teams that the Cards may be facing next week and see what the pitching match-ups look like. So, the first round is still going to be either the Giants or Dodgers. Yesterday - Odalis Perez (3.25 ERA). Today - Jose Lima (4.19 ERA). Sunday - Kaz Ishii (4.69 ERA).

Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Monday, October 17, 2005. I'm starting to wonder if I have the mental make-up to enjoy the playoffs. I mean - the Game 2 loss kicked my butt. The Game 3 loss didn't hurt as badly, but only because I thought the Cardinals would win Game 4. Which, in turn, really got me in a great mood last night/this morning. 1983 (White Sox) - 1-3 in the ALCS. 1988 (Athletics) - 4-0 in ALCS, 1-4 in WS. 1992 (Athletics) - 2-4 in ALCS.

Various articles, comments, analysis, and general writings about the St. Louis Cardinals. Monday, January 31, 2005. Sosa Traded to the Birds. Orioles, that is. Jerry Hairston 100 (received in the Sosa trade). At a glance, it appears as if by making a trade for Huff, the Cubs could replace the hitting of Alou in their lineup on an OPS basis. But will they replace the production lost from both corners, even if they can pry Huff away from Tampa Bay? At a glance - it appears unlikely. Huff, a left handed bat...
