Wisconsin Snapshots: Sweet memories
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009/12/sweet-memories.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Most families have at least one favorite Christmas tradition. We have a number of them, like doing jigsaw puzzles from the time the gift wrap flies until the last dollop of whipcream hits the pumpkin pie. Along with some of the gals (yes, Anne, I read your blog). Here's Dad's recipe (I have a copy he handwrote for me - one of my precious trreasures). It came from his mother, Ruby - in her day, it was made with rich yellow cream instead of c...

Wisconsin Snapshots: What did you expect??
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009/12/what-did-you-expect.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Tuesday, December 1, 2009. What did you expect? Yep, I'm in Oregon. And here are Oregon Ducks, to prove the point (college team.very successful this year, BTW)! These two pairs have taken over the north end of town, trundling up hills (steep) and down, casing every yard for bird feeders that leak seeds, and thoroughly enjoying themselves in the ditches when it rains. These are the same ditches we played in as kids, only now they have grass instead of just mud. 02 December, ...

Wisconsin Snapshots: September 2009
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Seasonal changes are not for the faint of heart in Wisconsin. From high 70's one day to frost the next morning, isn't too much of a stretch. When the first leaves turn color, we start wrapping up the garden harvest, because any night can bring a killing frost. The weather report is followed more closely than a Packer's roster change. The melons were soon back out in the garden, as snacks for the busy hands. No, you don't! The back porch quickl...

Wisconsin Snapshots: October 2009
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. When the rest of the family were contemplating getting up and out of the house by 5 am the next morning, I made a lot of "gramma points" by offering to have Max and Jayden stay overnight at the cabin. By 7:30 pm they were fed and all snuggled into their nests, eager for the Friday Night Movie. There's nothing like a slanty roof/ceiling, quilts, and snuggly stuffed critters to make a cozy party out of just a sleep-over. Saturday, October 24, 2009.

Wisconsin Snapshots: Retiring - for now
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2010/02/retiring-for-now.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Sunday, February 21, 2010. Retiring - for now. It's been awhile - yes, I know. And it's going to be a good while longer before Wisconsin Snapshots will return. The decision has been made - I'm going to live with my mom for the time being. So I'll be blogging from Oregon now. Since it doesn't make much sense to call a blog sited in Oregon a Wisconsin Snapshot, a new blog has been started. Http:/ snapshotsfromtheleeside.blogspot.com/. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wisconsin Snapshots: November 2009
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Tuesday, November 24, 2009. The coast had almost two weeks of intermittant storms and high winds. One gust, just a mile up the bay from us, was clocked at 89 mph. Lots of rain makes for wet ground, which renders the shallow rooted alder trees very fragile when the winds kick up over 30 mph. I'm making a private wager with myself on just when that pesky tree hanging over the neighbor's fence will stop sharing all it's leaves with us. I thought the maple in the backyard w...

Wisconsin Snapshots: Mom
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009/12/mom.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Monday, December 7, 2009. A small sign on the fridge: "Gettin' old ain't for sissies." No one epitomizes that more than my mom. She maintains that if she sits still too long, she'll just rust away. So she stays active, to the point the rest of us can barely keep up with her! As Mom and I sorted through the huge bags, we found odds and ends of projects we could do ourselves. One was this small crib quilt. I sewed it together, and Mom tied it. And even though the squeezy part...

Wisconsin Snapshots: March 2009
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Friday, March 27, 2009. Fishing is more than a mere hobby to some folks. My brother Chris has a passion for the sport that is matched only by my mother. These two have terrorized salmon in Tillamook Bay and up the Trask and Tillamook Rivers for a number of years now. They have pictures of every salmon and steelhead they've caught, and of course great tales of the "ones that got away". So when he tells mom he is leaving at 4:30 am, she is there by 4:10! And that's the truth!

Wisconsin Snapshots: July 2009
http://staufferbirds.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Sweet and Savory Memory Bites. Friday, July 31, 2009. In the eye of the beholder. This is a vegetable garden. A lovely, straight row, weedless garden. It is the garden of someone with an obssessive compulsive personality who becomes very agitated if a plant strays out of place. Who shrieks if a weed actually arises from the pristine black soil. Someone who PLANTS CABBAGES IN A CHECKERBOARD PATTERN, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! This is not a normal garden. This garden is a family garden. A place for kids, and...
