You can get involved by -. Becoming a Citizen Advocate. Becoming an Advocate Associate. Becoming a Member of the Management Committee. A Citizen Advocate is someone who is willing to give their time freely to another person. Advocate Associates are a resource for Citizen Advocates. They have a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise in many different areas. Some of these areas are -. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING PROTEGES. Where are Proteges found? Why are Proteges Independent from the Program? What Support can a Protege Expect? What is the Legal Status of the Citizen Advocate/Protege Relationship? Like most human relationships most Citizen Advocacy relationships don’t require legal recognition, just the willingness of both parties to be involved.

The program dates back to 1995 with a group of dedicated people working together to help people with disabilities from every imaginable angle. This group was called the Rockhampton Advocacy Development Focus Group. In September 1998 Advocacy Works was created. The first public meeting was held in 1999 where the funding application was successful. In 2000 the first co-ordinator was employed for the newly named Capricorm Citizen Advocacy and shortly after an Administration Officer was also employed.
