Carl's Chronicles: 11/1/08 - 12/1/08
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Sunday, November 30, 2008. There's really not much to say about the passing of November. Its been mostly work and definitely no social life. Where I am in this apartment the sun doesn't strike directly, so there's no 'wild sunbathing'. Anyway the climate is quite variable and the nights are surprisingly cool. So I stay in the apartment, connect to the Internet, and fly away from here. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Carl's Chronicles: Househunting in Bali
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2009/10/househunting-in-bali.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Tuesday, October 06, 2009. Well what a surprise! This morning I got a call from the guy I had tried to call yesterday when I saw his announcement regarding a place to rent for two months from October 15 to December 15. Exactly the price I'm OK with and the timeframe I need. During the day a local guy turns up with a motor scooter for me, at a monthly rent of 600,000 rupiah (60 USD more or less), negotiated down from the 650 he first asked. Next month I...

Carl's Chronicles: Disaster!
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2009/10/disaster.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Monday, October 12, 2009. Early this morning I went to several ATMs to pull money so I could pay the rent on the bungalow I've taken from October 15th for two months. That done I went to work for the day, part of which took me to meet with - - Bagus - -, head of the Bali Tourist Board and owner of a really beautiful resort in Sanur called - - . I've lost my card, and my only access to funds. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Carl's Chronicles: Sorting out the mess
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2009/10/sorting-out-mess-ive-gotten-myself-into.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Monday, October 12, 2009. Sorting out the mess. Anyway, it appears that I left the card in the ATM as it wasn't used after my withdrawals. Im getting terribly forgetful - or there's too much on my mind and not enough is sticking. In the evening headed off to a bar in Seminyak but didnt find much enjoyable so headed straight back home. Carl's Chronicles: 5/1/08 - 6/1/08
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Saturday, May 31, 2008. A view over Arizona. Well I always wanted to travel to Vancouver - today work obliges me. Another long flight, across the US from Houston to Phoenix, then up the Pacific coast, over the border into Canada. If I compared the flatness of East Texas plains to that of Iraq, then the dry desert of Arizona reminds me of the flight over Iran and Pakistan to Kandahar. Phoenix is this great city built in the desert and still fringed by it...

Carl's Chronicles: 9/1/09 - 10/1/09
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Sunday, September 27, 2009. Idul Fitri in Jakarta. These last few days are lazy days. It's the end of Ramadhan, with the feast days of Idul Fitri and Labaran making for a whole week of slowed business and an air of vacation and many take off work for the whole week. Most of this time I have been doing preparatory work for the new project in Bali, whence it looks like I will be moving in the first full week of October. I jumped off the bike to go inside a p...

The account of my adventures from November 2007. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Dawn breaks over Belo Horizonte, which from this hotel overlooking the municipal park, it quite impressive (dawn, that is). Links to this post. Monday, September 29, 2008. Off to Belo Horizonte. Today I have to fly to Brazil to carry on with the project there. Dawn flight from Nice to Lisbon, then connect to Belo Horizonte. Total confusion at the gate for embarking; hardly surprising given general style of the place. The se...

Carl's Chronicles: Lunch and a chat
http://carlottersen.blogspot.com/2009/10/house-care-and-long-conversation.html
The account of my adventures from November 2007. Monday, October 12, 2009. Lunch and a chat. The shrine and offering stones in the enclosed garden here are bereft and abandoned. The grace and beauty of offering flowers to propitiate the local gods is such a delight that I'm tempted to ask Wayan, my across-the-street neighbor, if she would be so kind as to feed the gods at the same time she comes to clean house every morning. Another scramble from mattress, but this time without baby attached. My bran...

The account of my adventures from November 2007. Monday, October 12, 2009. Watching the dawn in Sanur. Struggled awake anyway and was out by 5:20, biking over in what I hoped was the general direction of Sanur so I could catch the dawn as the sun rose on the east side of Bali, Sanur being on the east coast of the long promontory that is the site of most tourist development in Bali. Past the guys who at night are tearing up the paving stones on the sidewalk so as to make the road a chaos for the next few ...
