祇樹給孤獨園林
須達長者是佛陀的眾多傑出在家弟子之一，他為人樂善好施，舉凡鰥、寡、孤、獨、廢、疾者無不恩蒙其惠，他的慈善一如寒冬中的暖陽，為這冷酷的世間帶來了溫馨，因此他被大家尊稱為 給孤獨 ，佛陀在 增壹阿含經 中讚譽他為 布施第一的居士。 在距今二千五百多年以前的古印度舍衛國，他買下了一處風景優美的林地奉獻給僧團，原本這處林地的所有權是屬於波斯匿王的長子祇陀太子所有，太子一開始不肯出讓，故意以一千八百萬金幣為售價刁難長者，但長者卻很爽快地以如數之 金幣 舖地示其誠意，祇陀太子深被長者的虔誠所感動，故於入口處的一塊小空地另自費蓋一大門，以保護寺院免受外界干擾，並於園中植下許多大樹，以太子之名命為 祇樹。 這段齊心合力的善舉被外界傳為美談，眾人為紀念這兩位捐贈者，便以 祇樹 及 給孤獨 二名合稱這座美麗的園林為 祇樹給孤獨園 ，也就是經典中常見的 勝林給孤獨園 或 祇桓精舍 ，本站為緬懷這位長者偉大的功德，特以此命名。 而我們所嚮往的、所渴望的、所欲聽聞的、所欲學習的，是那種來自佛陀清淨聖口的正法與真實語，我們姑且名之為 上座部佛法 ，又有人稱之為 原始佛法 ，而不是那種添加外道邪見的變調附佛邪法。
