With all the rain and wind today we where in no rush to go birding, so Pete and myself headed out at lunchtime to search for Cattle Egrets as it would be a year tick for him. On the downside the Song Thrush nest I found last week has failed. Blue Tit nest and eggs in a Treecreeper wedge style box. The box has no back to it so the Treecreeper's can enter the box and down to the base without leaving the tree trunk. They are wired onto rough barked conifer trees. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. The Diary of a BTO nest recorder. Life as a volunteer field ornithologist. Sunday, 24 May 2015. I've just returned from 9 days on Mull, the annual holiday. Weather was the worst in 4 visits but the wildlife was definitely the best. On a walk to the hide at Ardmore were this pair of Woodcock chicks after the adult had flushed from the side of the track. Crossbill are always a pleasure to watch. And what a view from Ardmore hide. This Common Sandpiper nest was at Croggan. I'll post more images another time.

Its been a few years since I've been sober enough to get up early and spend a whole day out on new years day so I thought I would have a drive along the north coast and the Camel estuary and see how many different birds I could find to start my year list.
