Reviews, Rants and Reflections: So this is what it feels like to be German.
http://reflectionsrants.blogspot.com/2014/07/so-this-is-what-it-feels-like-to-be.html
Reviews, Rants and Reflections. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. So this is what it feels like to be German. Orange is the new black. Palestinians are the new Jews. Israelis are the new Nazis. OK, this is not a nuanced statement. It is meant to shock. For the other side there is this video,. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict explained. Which also has its points. Please do take the few minutes to see it for perspective. There are many proxy powers fishing in the troubled waters. I try to do my small bits of protest...

Reviews, Rants and Reflections: Persist or change course? A curmodgeonly take on cute moral stories.
http://reflectionsrants.blogspot.com/2013/12/persist-or-change-course-curmodgeonly.html
Reviews, Rants and Reflections. Sunday, December 8, 2013. Persist or change course? A curmodgeonly take on cute moral stories. This post has been brewing for a while, but was prompted by a Facebook post by a dear friend. The story goes as follows: donkey is stuck in well. Farmer decides neither well nor donkey is worth the expense of saving. Farmer calls neighbours to help him shovel dirt on top of donkey. Donkey shakes dirt off his back and uses piled up dirt to climb out of well. One went like this:.

Reviews, Rants and Reflections: Review: The light between oceans by M.L. Stedman
http://reflectionsrants.blogspot.com/2014/01/review-light-between-oceans-by-ml.html
Reviews, Rants and Reflections. Saturday, January 11, 2014. Review: The light between oceans by M.L. Stedman. I am a picky reader of fiction these days. The world is too much with us. This time of transition in society at large is so fascinating that I spend much reading time searching the muddy stream of the internet for gold nuggets of insight. My patience with 'first world problems' has become limited. Already seems like historical fiction. The miracle turns out to be the beaching of a row boat contai...

A Writer's Workbench: A Little Background
http://awritersworkbench.blogspot.com/p/a-little-background.html
Sticky notes, ideas, and general disarray. I first realized that I had a talent for writing in junior college, after one of my English professors called me into her office to discuss an essay that I had written. "I can't believe that you wrote this," she said. "It's too good! From there, all bets were off. Currently, the bulk of my stories reside on my personal web site called Chronic Hysteresis which is hosted on the Angelfire free web service. More recently I've been writing stories based on TV sho...

A Writer's Workbench: February 2015
http://awritersworkbench.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sticky notes, ideas, and general disarray. Saturday, 28 February 2015. No city is complete without a good market. They are places for people to gather, socialize, and enjoy local products at more reasonable prices than many retailers. Montreal has several long-standing public markets that feature a wide selection of seasonal produce and artisanal wares, as well as hosting craft fairs and events. Here is a list of some of the best ones, in no particular order. Bonsecours Market, 325 Commune St East. Openi...

A Writer's Workbench: March 2015
http://awritersworkbench.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sticky notes, ideas, and general disarray. Saturday, 28 March 2015. A post I read on Facebook on a similar topic coined the term "Victim Thinking". It's about blaming the other person. You were not responsible for whatever happened; it was always someone else's fault. The cost for doing this however is giving away your power. You just become a feather on the wind, unable to control your own destination. Victim thinking justifies revenge, atrocities, political shenanigans of all types. It's "us" vs...

A Writer's Workbench: Outdoor Fun
http://awritersworkbench.blogspot.com/2015/07/outdoor-fun.html
Sticky notes, ideas, and general disarray. Saturday, 4 July 2015. Yesterday I attended a Geo-Lunch hosted by a gentleman who goes by the name of LeGodFather. This might sound like something out of a spy movie but in fact it was a lunch-hour meeting of a group of folks who call themselves Geocachers. The web site http:/ www.geocaching.com is devoted to the game and its players, and everyone is encouraged to leave a note of their adventures on the cache pages. Poet, Detachment Mom, and Navy Wife.

A Writer's Workbench: May 2015
http://awritersworkbench.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sticky notes, ideas, and general disarray. Thursday, 28 May 2015. I know it's been a while since I posted. I was away, then I got sick, and now I'm dealing with lots of family-related stuff. Anyway. We're slowly sliding into another Dark Age and hardly anyone is paying attention. It's honestly frightening. Look at what an advanced society Afghanistan had before radical religion took over. Pictures of women from the 1960s look exactly like those of women in North America. Don't think it ca...A male acquai...

Blog from the Kootenays : On 1949 and the timing of wish fulfillment
http://freegreenliving.blogspot.com/2014/12/on-1949-and-timing-of-wish-fulfillment.html
Blog from the Kootenays. The life and times of an old semi-hippie. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. On 1949 and the timing of wish fulfillment. Some memories from the year 1949. Yes, I do remember Harry Truman being president. The memory is that of a newscaster intoning the name as a man in a hat steps off a plane. It is indelibly linked to tinny music, the smell of french fries, and Popeye the sailor man. Back then movie meant one thing: Cineac. (Picture from wikipedia.). Now for the wish fulfillment. In the ...

Blog from the Kootenays : We stood up and were counted.
http://freegreenliving.blogspot.com/2015/03/we-stood-up-and-were-counted.html
Blog from the Kootenays. The life and times of an old semi-hippie. Saturday, 14 March 2015. We stood up and were counted. I heard about it the day before. I had missed opportunities to join other Nakuspers to a rally in any of the larger centers, all at least 2 hours from here. It wasn't till late at night that I thought: Why not make something happen right here in the village? Some of its members see "politics" or "protest" as disrespectful of the sacred place. I had grabbed a blooming geranium from the...
