He’s been losing it since 1995…. Monthly Archives: November 2012. It’s time to update this blog, because the last post—in remembrance of a loss–fails to reflect my state of mind. Right now, I’m feeling a deep sense of hope. Sometimes we human beings get sort of stuck: stuck in how we eat and drink, stuck in how we think, stuck in our prejudices and fears. And God knows, I’m not one who knows how to unstick himself very well. In fact, I’m rather poor at it. Fifteen years ago today…. Hostess, RIP (part 2).

He’s been losing it since 1995…. Monthly Archives: April 2012. Gender Roles: Part Two. I didn’t get that last post exactly right. (Of course, there never is such a thing as “exactly right.”). What’s missing is the concept of “girly”. 8220;Girly” could mean something like: girls are supposed to be doll-loving mother wannabees who want to find a man to support them in their mother roles. But I have something entirely different in mind. One of my sisters has become a top-of-her-profession lawyer. A gender-n...

He’s been losing it since 1995…. I’m in love. OK, it’s strange to post something like this. But I feel compelled to do it. I’m in love. I feel the need to “out” myself. Go back six months or so. I felt lonely, depressed, desperate. I did something very, very, very, very strange for me. (Can I insert another “very” and still pass the Strunk and White test? I signed up to an online dating service. It made me feel like I was out of my mind. But in my despair, I did it. And we have been loving ever since.

He’s been losing it since 1995…. Hostess, RIP (part 2). I’ve been wondering about the demise of Hostess, and yet I have been quite unsurprised in some ways. Let’s start with this: the strike and the labor dispute might indeed have been the death blow to the company (not to mention the alleged misconduct of senior management giving themselves getting 300% raises as they were preparing for bankruptcy. So in this case, what was Hostess’s iceberg? Well, I don’t know. And why would anyone ask me? That leaves ...

He’s been losing it since 1995…. Monthly Archives: June 2012. The last two posts were actually provoked by the following thoughts, which I have not previously dared to write. But I’m feeling secure these days, so…. What this means is that philosophy demands that nothing be assumed to be true without an investigation. It also means that knowledge exists in the realm of idea , so philosophy is also fundamentally idealistic. Philosophy is the search for true ideas . Then any interpretations of literature th...

He’s been losing it since 1995…. Got to meet Penn after the show:. Yet another tattoo…. So yesterday I bought running shoes. No one told me how complicated it would be. Years and years ago—back in college—I once went along with my friend John to buy him some running shoes. He talked a lot about pronation and supination before we went, but I knew that he had his mind on Saucony. When we got to the shop, some Randy-Mac girl (who was cute as a button! But yesterday there were no Randy-Mac girls in sight.

He’s been losing it since 1995…. Monthly Archives: March 2012. I ve been waiting for a tenure contract before decorating my office at work. But I m tired of looking at naked walls. So I placed a couple of orders, and will post pictures once I get everything and hung it all. Here s what I ordered:. 1 A framed photo of Abraham Lincoln, the most important American of the 19th century. 2 A framed photo of Jackie Robinson stealing home. Jackie is the second most important American of the 20th century. In the ...

He’s been losing it since 1995…. I hate reading a blog, finding it very interesting, and then being unable to find out anything about who writes it. Now that I’ve started writing my own, I’m not sure what to say about myself. Funny, huh? Teaching English. I’d just rather be playing rock and roll on my banjo. 8212;has nothing to do with backwoods retardation, and more to do with a spiritual search for something which only playing the banjo can reveal. A philosopher with a banjo is a remarkable thing.
