Stejně jako všechny původní súfijské řády, řád Nimatullahi odvozuje svůj původ od iniciačního řetězce, který počíná islámem a Prorokem, považovaným za prvního mistra. Slovo. Se odvozuje od šáha jménem Nimatullah Wali, který založil řád koncem 14. století a byl jedním z velkých súfijských mistrů Iránu.
