Give back to the river you love. News & Media. Whychus Creek is a local favorite for its unique springs, scenic views, and recreational opportunities. It flows from high in the Cascade Mountains through the City of Sisters on its way to the Deschutes River. For almost 100 years, twenty miles of Whychus Creek ran dry during the summer irrigation season. With no water, Whychus Creek's formerly healthy steelhead and redband trout populations dwindled to low levels. The Deschutes River and its Tributaries.

Most of the Deschutes River is designated as a Federal Wild and Scenic River and State Scenic Waterway; and the wide range of habitats in this watershed support a diversity of plants, fish and wildlife. Healthy fish populations require healthy upland and riparian zones. Upstream reaches of the Deschutes River and its tributaries pass through forests filled with fir, Douglas-fir, and hemlock.
