http://bigredclydesdale.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
A blog about all things cycling; experiences, reviews and using it to control diabetes. Monday, 29 December 2014. Late December Warm Spell. Late December brought us some unseasonably warm weather. No kidding, we had a green Christmas for the first time in many years. It's not great weather for my ice bike with its studded tires but it was a great excuse to pull out my hybrid. It's also a great escape from the concrete jungle. Scenic views of the river and wetlands that help you forget about the rat r...

Phat Bike Mike in Ottawa: June 2015
http://phattirerider.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
I'm a fat guy, looking to use technology to assist in weight loss and becoming active again. Most bikes can't handle my weight but this one can. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Removed the rear bag and rack. So with great sadness I removed the rear rack and the rear bag from my bike and my rear mud guard. The coupler that attached to my seat post was sticking out and rubbing against my legs, which I was ignoring for the most part but after yesterdays 2hr bike annoyance just got to me. Friday, 26 June 2015. I'm no...

Phat Bike Mike in Ottawa: July 2014
http://phattirerider.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
I'm a fat guy, looking to use technology to assist in weight loss and becoming active again. Most bikes can't handle my weight but this one can. Thursday, 31 July 2014. But the bike is still making some rattle noise. I opened up my controller case and placed some thin strips of foam around the seal of the casing. Rattle noise is gone. I'll have to trim the part that is sticking out at some point. Next time I open up the back side I'll add some picture of what is going on inside of my little black box....

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. More like swim bike whine, amirite? Rolling Slow, Chicago. August 6, 2015. A local ride patterned on Slow Roll Detroit. Came out to the west side neighborhood of Austin this last week. I took advantage of it being so close to home to participate. The ride itself was a mixed bag for me. More stressful than it should have been. I think I had a lot of misplaced expectations going in. 8220;We gotta get our shoes.”. 8220;You don’t need shoes! When we pulled out...

Step 1, mask. Step 2, Glass's. So I noticed a lot of that crazy ice had melted away, so I'm back to riding and after just two days of not riding, it really effected my mood. It's so strange. The ride is a little longer as I'm going a bit slower but it's still nice. Step 3, Helmet. Thursday, 20 November 2014. The FAT ti...

The good news is we identified it and now. Did you just say I have diabetes? I got a wealth of information from a diabetes educational center. I learned that I had a lot of misconceptions about the disease and ways I could eat better. I started walking a lot and eventually got on the road with my hybrid. I forgot how much I loved cyc...

Big Red Clydesdale: Touring the Counties Part One
http://bigredclydesdale.blogspot.com/2015/05/touring-counties-part-one.html
A blog about all things cycling; experiences, reviews and using it to control diabetes. Sunday, 31 May 2015. Touring the Counties Part One. I had several distance goals this year and was looking for a way to build up to them. I was hoping to get a few metric centuries in by the end of June, a 170km ride in July and a 200km ride in August. When I started to plan my rides, I realized I had access to a lot of great riding right in the united counties where I live. My next stop was a tiny spot right next to ...

A blog about all things cycling; experiences, reviews and using it to control diabetes. Wednesday, 26 November 2014. Android Apps for Cycling. Sometimes I feel like the best modern invention for cycling is the smart phone. When I re-ignited my passion for cycling, I had an Android phone. I was hoping there would be a program that could make use of the phone's sensors and give me a good guess as to my speed. Today I have a variety of apps that enhance my cycling experience. Activity was indoors (no GPS).
