EarStory Radio Review: Forty-Three Fifty-Nine - Wake
http://earstory.blogspot.com/2009/11/forty-three-fifty-nine-wake.html
Audio Drama Reviews and More. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Forty-Three Fifty-Nine - Wake. The "Occasional Series" Forty-Three Fifty-Nine is usually concerned with suspense drama. The idea it to have a play that fits, real-time, into the Forty-Three Fifty-Nine minute time slot of The Afternoon Play. The first one was literally a ticking time bomb, the second as I recall had something to do with a poisoning or some such, both were quite dark and good. With this one, Wake by Katie Hims. Forty-Three Fifty-Nine...
EarStory Radio Review: Filthy Rich
http://earstory.blogspot.com/2009/10/filthy-rich.html
Audio Drama Reviews and More. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Filthy Rich by Michael Butt. Directed by Sasha Yevtushenko is a very enjoyable mystery. We have a pair of young adult brother and sister twins who have always had a, not so out of the ordinary, complicated relationship. But after momma and pappa die in an automobile accident leaving a substantial fortune, things get very complicated indeed. S lucid, entertaining play takes us through the twists and turns in playfully sinister style. Slade Time: Book...

EarStory Radio Review: Of Mice And Men
http://earstory.blogspot.com/2010/03/of-mice-and-men.html
Audio Drama Reviews and More. Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Of Mice And Men. Up this week form BBC Radio 4 Classic Serial. Don't get me wrong, this version written by Donna Franceschild is just fine, but if you know the story you kind of know the story. And the story is a dark one bathed in California 1930s migrant worker sunlight. Listening to this version, I found myself wondering what to make of the plot, what is the point of the story. Is it a monster story? Of Mice and Men is available to stream. Slade...

Slade Time: You Don't Love Me Yet
http://sladetime.blogspot.com/2007/04/you-dont-love-me-yet.html
Movies, Books, Radio, Music, and whatever. Wednesday, April 4, 2007. You Don't Love Me Yet. A novel by Jonathan Lethem. There is something admirable in the creative marketing of the new Jonathan Lethem novel. He has used the power and access he has earned form his previous successful works to do a multi-month rollout of the product and the ideas within it. First, in January or February, came the essay in Harper's The ecstasy of influence: A plagiarism. Then came the novel You Don't Love Me Yet. The mater...

Slade Time: Excerpt from a Dog's Ear
http://sladetime.blogspot.com/2009/01/excerpt-from-dogs-ear.html
Movies, Books, Radio, Music, and whatever. Friday, January 16, 2009. Excerpt from a Dog's Ear. This is an entertaining and emotionally fulfilling story of a man who finds himself in the past where he encounters himself at age nine. It's not an altogether original concept. It brings to mind the old Twilight Zone, episode "Walking Distance" which also had it's origins in a Gore Vidal short story "A Moment of Green Laurel". It's a beautiful heartfelt poetic little play that delivers beyond expectation.

Slade Time: Winter Concert
http://sladetime.blogspot.com/2009/01/winter-concert.html
Movies, Books, Radio, Music, and whatever. Friday, January 16, 2009. Well, it's going to be a little warmer in DC on Sunday with a high of 36 degrees. What a perfect day for a lovely outdoor music concert. It's like the middle of winter and a little bit cold for this sort of thing isn't it? Not too cold for these arctic acts, Springsteen, Beyonce, Blige, U2. etc. No doubt the stage will be heated in some way. And there is a lot more money to be made at one mass concert then at some tiny old-fashioned ven...
Slade Time: Hellzapoppin'
http://sladetime.blogspot.com/2007/04/hellzapoppin.html
Movies, Books, Radio, Music, and whatever. Sunday, April 8, 2007. Directed by H.C. Potter. 1941, 84 minutes, 16mm, b&w. With Ole Olsen, Chic Johnson, Mischa Auer, Shemp Howard, and Elisha Cook Jr. Any resemblance in the following to an actual movie review is purely coincidental. The same sort of line as the above is what we see on screen at the beginning of Hellzapoppin' except it says "motion picture" rather than "movie review". Who it to blame? Who is to honor? Olson and Johnson and very good, charming...

Audio Drama Reviews and More. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. An ancient submariner finds himself underwater. For this old sailor the sea is a lot rougher on dry land. The pain of estrangement from his only son and the desire to please his wife with a new freezer, that is beyond the budget, sets the drama in motion. A young shark smells emotional blood and swims in to take advantage. It serves as a individual case study of the debt crisis that is currently of global significance. Links to this post. Automatio...
