David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. We had a wonderful time on our trip to Beijing last week. Even the 13 hour flight wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. We promptly went right to sleep even though it was only about 7:30 in the evening. Across the street from the square is the Forbidden City. Practically all places - even restaurants - have two statues of lions in front of them. One male, one female. (to scare off evil spirits). A four-star rated toilet in the Forbidden City. Not.

Surf and Turf: Turkey part 2

David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. Well, that was quite the hiatus I took from finishing the post about our trip to Turkey. So here we go again. The picture above and below are in the classical city of Troy. This is a 4000 year old city and legendary center of the Trojan War, made immortal by Homer's epic poem "The Iliad.". They would build city upon city. Those little markers you can see are the different levels of the city. They figure there's a thousand years between each layer. That fo...

David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. I love this time of year. My flowers are in bloom and it makes me happy. Janet brought me this bouquet of hydrangeas for Easter. I left them in the house for a couple of weeks and then replanted them outside. Frilly iris'. Love them. Hibiscus. They put me in an Aloha state of mind. Pansies are my favorite. Especially purple ones. I have a bunch of calla lilies around the house. Wisteria. All too soon they will be gone. So lovely. Ileen and I loved it.

David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. Morocco - part 2. For this trip, we signed up for every optional tour. One of them was a culinary demonstration. We learned how to make couscous. Open a box and pour it in boiling water? After lunch we were taken to the Majorelle Gardens and Marrakesh Museum. Gorgeous. (picture of that below). At the Bahia Palace in Marrakesh. They have tried to plant more Argan trees, but they won't grow. There is only one way for it to happen: goats climb up in the ...

David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. Kate Emily Byram joined our family last week on the 16th. She's our 10th grandchild. What a little cutie. Little Matthew has no idea yet how his "only child" world is going to change. Kate is 5 days old here. So here's to the new and improved Byram family. And the Hales family too. David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. That's "hello" in Arabic.). What a fun weekend we had this year. Our theme was: Arabian Nights. Here's the formal invitation:. So on the Saturday before, the Bedouin tent was started in the front yard. It took lots of fabric to transform it into what was imagined in my head. What's a party without sugar? White and milk chocolate camels. Of course. My talented daughter-in-law Laura (with help from the other girls) decorated the cookies for me.

David and Melody, But mostly about those we love. A friend organized a chocolate tasting/making trip and today was the day. Yippee! So off to Beverly Hills we went. The shop is called "Vosges" (pronounced: vo-zh). I loved the decor of the shop: Aubergine-colored and Moroccan designed. Luv! To begin with, there were samples of their chocolate bars to try. Chocolate with peppercorns, bacon, chili peppers, etc. I was pleasantly surprised at the combinations. The ceiling was hand painted. My sister Kami and I.
