Are You Talking to Me? Recently, someone I saw as a leader and a role model said something hurtful to me. The comment was a surprise, but the bigger surprise was who said it. It wowed me. Totally unexpected. About 15 minutes later I responded and they said, “It’s not you,” and then walked away, still upset by the situation that prompted the comment. Luckily, I was not the one who initiated it. That’s my decision. Why wasn’t it ridiculous, or selfish, or stupid? Why did I have to internalize their comment?
