English 480

Wednesday, December 12, 2007. English 480 wrap up. I liked the relaxed/informal atmosphere of the class as well. We could be honest in expressing our opinions and I never felt pressured to have the same opinions as the instructor. We were encouraged to be an individual. I really liked my classmates, especially since I knew some of them before this class. As a result of the activities done in class and discussions, we were able to. Overall, I enjoyed being under Todd's tutelage! Impressions of the texts.

Wednesday, September 26, 2007. To tell the truth. One of my personal favorites! However, as tecahers we must think of even more ways to connect the text to lives of our students. Thinking back to my days in middle school, I could completely relate to the ideas expressed by his students about reading. He noted that one of his students said that reading is something people tell you to do so that you can spew out the 'correct' answers. How doe sthis help students? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

English 480: Group Teach- Neil Gaymen's 'Violent Cases'

http://www.english480.blogspot.com/2007/12/group-teach-neil-gaymens-violent-cases.html

Monday, December 10, 2007. Group Teach- Neil Gaymen's 'Violent Cases'. Graphic novels are extremely unconventional and are a great way to be 'revolutionary' as a teacher today. I also liked the whole memory segment that this group did. Even though they didn't use psychoanalytic theory, this novel can be viewed through this lense, particularly concerning memory and repression. This book had many different aspects and the group did a great job touching on a few of them. December 12, 2007 at 6:48 AM.

Trevor's Blog: December 2007

http://yoduhdood.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 12, 2007. This was, far and away, one of the most influential classes that I have been a part of here at Western. I feel as though the small class environment and the discussion based classroom really elevated the level of learning that we experienced. In all, the class was one of my favorites, and there are many things that I will take away from here and use in my future classrooms. Monday, December 10, 2007. The Giver Group Teach. Tuesday, November 27, 2007. I'm interested in your reservation about Marxist theory because it changed your opinion of the book. I'm not entirely sure it's a bad thing. Isn't it that one of the reasons we introduce theory into the classroom - to give students tools to look at their texts differently? November 29, 2007 at 6:36 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). You gotta be the book: December 2007

http://fall07eglish480.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 7, 2007. I really enjoyed this class this semester! Something i would recommend fixing for the next semester would be to make more requirements for the chapter teaches. I felt that they were very redundant and when we had more in one day, it was pretty boring and i sometimes found myself not paying as close of attention. I would try to add some more creative ways to teach or discuss the chapters so each person isn't doing the same thing every time. Wednesday, December 5, 2007.

Teaching Literature in Secondary Schools: Appleman, Chapter 8 - Critical Encounters: Reading the World

http://teachlit.blogspot.com/2007/11/appleman-chapter-8-critical-encounters.html

Teaching Literature in Secondary Schools. Quotations to Live (Teach) By. The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. Sunday, November 4, 2007. Appleman, Chapter 8 - Critical Encounters: Reading the World. This chapter really puts the rest of the text together. If I doubted the book or the use of literary theory in the secondary classroom to this point, The final chapter put those doubts to rest. The final exerci...

Writings for ENGL 4800. Sunday, November 25, 2007. Group Teach - The Bell Jar. I thought that our group teach went rather well. I felt we had prepared the materials correctly, and thoroughly, and that the entire presentation went very smoothly. Lauren Hill's introduction to the book covered the main characters as well as the idea of what the bell jar represented, as well as covering the time period in which it was written. http://rachelmtrembley.blogspot.com/2007/12/reflection.html

Writings for ENGL 4800. Sunday, December 9, 2007. I think this was a great class. We had a small group but a good mix of different opinions on the topics we discussed. Wikispaces - I wish we could have done more with the wikispaces. I feel that it was the focus of our class the beginning of the semester and then we just kind of forgot about it. Next time I would recommend posting something on it every couple of weeks instead of 3-4 weeks continuously and then not again. Group Teach - I loved the group te...
