Western Brockholes. Exmoor. Used the bus pass again to travel out to Headon Cross on the A39. Made my way up a rather muddy Dean’s Lane and on to the top of Selworthy Beacon. Great views along the coast but the cold wind soon had me on the move again. I descended into East Combe and followed the rugged coast path east. At the top of the ridge between East Combe and Henners Combe the wartime remains of a bunker and a tank reminded me that North Hill was once a wartime gunnery range. 12) and Great Red.

Climbing. Exmoor Coast. Started climbing proper again today. Went out with a friend and climbed Pebble and Shingle Shack on the Exmoor coast. The weather did not look promising to begin with. Low cloud was settling on the Quantocks and North Hill, with a chilly northwest wind at 1000ft. Checking The Exmoor Climbing Stakes. The weathers improving, once out of the wind it’s quite warm. Took my hammer for a walk today checking the metal stakes that climbers tie on to at the top of the cliffs.

Crumbling Cliff: Malham Circular Walk.

Above the first fall. We retreated back downstream and traversed the hill around to a point above Malham Cove, then headed across to Malham Tarn where we had lunch. After lunch we descended down the dry valley to the top of Malham Cove and the limestone pavement. Reaching the bottom of the cove I was drawn to the spot where the stream from the tarn re-surfaces, I was disappointed not to find a cave entrance. Limestone pavement above Malham Cove. Exmoor Coast. Greenaleigh to Bossington. The trio were obviously going to take their time and have a good look around so I left them to it. There were no other problems, I came out onto Selworthy Sands just as the sand was being uncovered. Peregrines with their rapid wing beat were racing across the cliffs and the weather was holding out. The tide had turned and they had increased their speed somewhat in order to make it through Gull Hole. Im back, stumbling across Exmoor. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Hurlstone Circuit. Exmoor. Did the Hurlstone Circuit. On Saturday with 13 others, the largest party that I have known to attempt the route. Brilliant weather, the air has become much warmer. The leader took the main group through Gull Hole but three or four of us squeezed through the tight cave which passes through the headland emerging just the east side of Gull Hole. The weather prevented me having a real work out in Wales so I was anxious to get out. Today was ideal. But where to go? I decided to explore an area which I imagine most people avoid due to it being very wet under foot. The area I chose was the triangle of land within Chetsford Bridge, Lucott Cross and Aldermans Barrow. Rather than just park up and jump over the hedge I decided to make a walk of it. Wednesday 25th June 2010. Making our way home now, pulled into Jerica, north of Valencia for the night. Amazed to find a huge rocky canyon with towering walls. Explored the area and found climbers not very far from the car park. The remainder of the canyon was empty with acres of inviting rock. Sadly no time to try it out. Coney Combe. Exmoor. For nearly thirty years climbers have pulled and stood on this block as it slowly eased its way to freedom. Fortunately, as far as is known it did not take anyone with it. After a really cold night drove up to Dale Head to do Pen-y-Ghent. Really easy walk up a wide track collecting another geocache on the way.
