The Fabric of Time

The Fabric of Time. Saturday, December 31, 2016. Making Dad look Scandinavian. The knitted braid is really cool. It wasn't hard to do; it just required some concentration and a lot more time than techniques that I have already mastered. I love how it looks and am amazed at the different effects that can be achieved with simple needles and yarn. I will definitely use knitted braids again. Dad likes it too and even showed it off at work, despite some teasing from coworkers. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Fabric of Time: January 2014

http://fabricoftime.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

The Fabric of Time. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. A Cote for a Little Girl. Front view of cote. Not only am I fairly new to medieval sewing, but also this is also my first venture into children's clothing. It's so hard to adjust to the tiny size! Inside-out view, showing the silk facings. The cote is made out of a wool skirt, another one of the skirts that I rescued from a friend's garbage, like the 19th century wool capes that I made. Silk facing on the sleeve, hand-sewn with a running stitch. Close-up o...

The Fabric of Time: November 2013

http://fabricoftime.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

The Fabric of Time. Thursday, November 21, 2013. Inserting gussets on a chemise. I'm currently making a 19th century chemise to use for reenacting. I just set gussets into it and want to show exactly how I did it for future reference and also to open discussion for different methods. Maybe there is a way that is easier or more effective. I welcome input! I set the gusset piece like so, right sides facing, and stitched the extreme point of the slit to the intersection point of the seam lines on the gusset.

The Fabric of Time: March 2016

http://fabricoftime.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html

The Fabric of Time. Tuesday, March 1, 2016. A much needed petticoat. These pictures feature the debut of my model, Penelope. She's been in my life for well over a year, but I don't quite know how to approach her. We haven't actually collaborated on any projects yet. Here she is showing off my petticoat. FYI, Penelope is significantly shorter than me and is incapable of growing taller. 1/2" seam allowance (not accurate, but quick and easy) and bar tack at bottom of pocket slit. What the item is: petticoat.

The Fabric of Time: October 2014

http://fabricoftime.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

The Fabric of Time. Sunday, October 12, 2014. 1860's Corsets: My First Attempts. Me in my underwear- the chemise is a disaster but I've made a much better one since then. Past Patterns 703 Corset. Back view of my Past Patterns 703 corset. I made a skeleton corset last year so that I'd have something cool to wear through the super-hot weather of the Gettysburgh 150th in mid July. That corset turned out really amazing! Friday, October 3, 2014. 1920 Suffragette Costume (Part 1). And chose the view without a...

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but this cannot be pointed out enough:. About a month ago, The New England Journal of Medicine published a post named Data Sharing. In it the concept of "research parasites" is introduced. Let us look at the paragraph in question:. Allow me to repeat:. Even use the data to try to disprove what the original investigators had posited.'. Is this not what science is about? Outside my comfort zone is drawing. But I can't draw!
