I find it ironic you have a picture of yourself standing next to your beloved horse, yet you’re perfectly willing to eat similar species. What a hypocrite. July 2, 2014 at 8:15 pm. Ashley Grace’s Corner. The Haymakers Rock the Pool…. The Story of India… →. August 3, 2015 · 4:55 am. It Takes a Team…. Where does your food come from? Apart from food that is completely home raised and never leaves the farm, it takes a team of people to get it from. While I believe that many would love to have a simple answer to this often asked question, the reality is that food production in 2015 is not a single story. It takes a team. I rely on my feed yard cooperative, BMG. It takes a team. I had th...

I did an interview last week with a reporter who asked,. Why does your farm participate in 3. Party animal welfare audits? I ask that my customers trust me to be a good farmer, but I open my farm to auditing so that they can verify that I practice what I preach. No matter how good a job you do on your farm, an audit is a stressful time.

Daily Diary of Calving Season on an American Angus Ranch. It’s the time of year where ranches are starting to have brandings. This picture here is my first time putting a brand on a calf. We did a small group of 50 or so. I will post about our formal branding later. Branding can pose some hazards and one would do themselves a favor to think of safety and emergency procedures in advance. So I’m going to touch on some aspects of safety and branding. Tie them up outside. Farm Safety Just for Kids. The peopl...

Platte Valley Farmer: August 2013
http://plattevalleyfarmer.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 17, 2013. Another one of the many regulations that affect farmers these days is the SPCC or Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure. While it went into effect several years ago most farmers were ignoring this regulation because the EPA was looking at other industries and not ag. Not anymore. We decided to build a steel tank with a poly liner to contain our fuel storage tanks. It was easier to install than we thought it would be, the worst was figuring out what went where. I am the fo...

Sunday, June 1, 2014. Happy Anniversary to Us! For those of you who follow Barb or I on Facebook, you'll know that our anniversary was . let us say interesting. For the rest of you I'll share some of the details. It was the middle finger of my right hand. Barb went running for a WetOne to catch the blood. I looked at Ray and asked where the nearest Urgent Care was as I knew it was going to need stitches. So Happy Anniversary to Us! Wife cuts my finger and I get stitches. But actually this is a pretty...

Platte Valley Farmer: England 2014
http://plattevalleyfarmer.blogspot.com/2014/02/england-2014.html
Sunday, February 23, 2014. We are in Jolly Old England for a week on holiday. We are having a wonderful time. Below are some of my first impressions and memories. The British are even more confused about the metric system than we are. They buy their beer in pints, but their petrol in litres. They measure small things in centimeters, but roads in yards and miles. I don't know about weights, but lorries are weighed in tons, but how much is a ton? A biscuit is a cookie. You put mayo on your fries or you...

Platte Valley Farmer: July 2013

Sunday, July 7, 2013. Sounds and sights of farming. This week I was reminded again of why I love to be a farmer in Nebraska. We started irrigation season and the first week is a lesson is patience and remaining calm. While I want to get every well running the first day, there seems to always be problems here or there that delay the process. I love the morning sets the best. It is cool and the wildlife is still out and about. Everyday I get to see. I love being a farmer. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Confes...

Friday, May 10, 2013. Unconditional love-but don't push it.this is so reassuring :). My mother decided it would be a comical statement to post this picture to my wall on Facebook. Thankfully, I know her well enough to both believe this and laugh at it. And I'm sure she thought it was perfectly timed given what this weekend holds for celebration. On this Mother's Day, we have the opportunity to pamper, cater and serve our mothers and show them just how much we appreciate their service the other 364 days o...

You might think it sounds catchy and country, and probably remember hearing the phrase "ridin for the brand" in some commercial or marketing campaign. Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Chasing Calves and Christ. It usually doesn't take long for people to realize I'm a passionate person. And if you know me well, you know that roping is one of those passions. It is the ultimate cowboy sport and is a true display of quality horsemanship and teamwork. Of all the ways I can use a horse, this is my number one preference. I never would've guessed in a million years I would actually. Meet one of the greatest ropers of all times and one of my heroes. And as for young Mr T...

Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Family, Friends and the Outdoors. Bill Jordan's motto is one that rings true with every hardcore hunter. The combination of camaraderie and creation is a luring characteristic of this wonderful sport. Granted it's always exhilarating to hear a thundering gobble, be within bow range of a giant buck or have a flock of teal buzz past your blind at 70mph, but that's all just icing on the cake to what truly makes hunting such an enjoyable sport. And the coldest I have ever been!

Last weekend, I traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to participate in the 2018 Food Waste and Hunger Summit. In the United States, we waste 40% of the food that is grown while 1 in 6 Americans are food insecure. The summit, put on by DC Central Kitchen and its Campus Kitchens Project. We can do better. We must do better.

Feed yarn and thread. Cooking, knitting, sewing and living. February 6, 2016. By Feed yarn and thread. This is my first post on my new blog page! Some of you may remember me from my previous incarnation as The Red Cat Food Store. Over the summer school holidays I took my kids on a “family road trip adventure” it was their first time out of the state of Victoria. We drove from Melbourne to the Glenworth Valley.
