Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Nautical Art - part 1. I am a sailor. Having been born on the biggest island of the U.S. eastern seaboard seems to have deposited a certain amount of 'salt' in my blood. While I have lived in the dry areas of Texas, Colorado, and Arizona there was always an underlying call to the water. To quote a favorite character,. There is nothing, absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.". There are times when the world is yours. When a single breath fi...

Saturday, March 14, 2009. Life and death both share in shaping the way we see and live in the world. Here's a short story before I post the artwork series associated with. Gazing hour after hour as the various highways rolled at by 50mph and unknown towns disappeared in our wake, I developed a visual love affair with the landscape of the United States. Here are just a few photographs depicting part of that sentiment. Bighorn Dome" is photo-image #6 of this series; A passing thunder storm has dropped cold...

Thursday, March 12, 2009. Lets go to the beach. Based entirely on latitude. Beach time' for different people means different things. In the Pacific Northwest it isn't always. Fun in the sun". Pacific Beach, girls playing in the early season surf. This photograph conveys the feeling to me of the hearty Pacific Northwest people who will venture out into the elements even when the temperatures are 'less than ideal'. I love that 'endless' Pacific Ocean stretching into the beyond. I love the rendition of this...

Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Summer Series - Mountains. Northeastern Washington firefighters know August as the RED SUN MONTH. Those of us in the fire community who live here know we live in a every old wildfire ecology. Dry pine forests, hot summer weather, frequent lightning storms have left historical burn scars upon the fuels and landscape for many thousands of years. The first photograph,. North Spur of Franson Peak, Kettle River Valley'. I'll close this series of Summer Mountains with a view of one of ...

Thursday, March 19, 2009. DEPARTING LOOK AT WINTER (in progress). In this series the focus will be images of winter, and most pictorially, the departing of winter from the northern climes. In the image #1; entitled "Icy Reflections" we see the remnants of winter's ice vanishing off the surface of the river as the promise of spring comes to the neighboring cottonwoods. I'll close with this rendered photograph, #7 titled "Snow Leaving the Highlands". The starkness of this image with snow melt on the so...

Firewater: Winter Birds...
http://fosterfanning.blogspot.com/2014/02/winter-birds_14.html
Friday, February 14, 2014. If you have a home feeding station in a winter-like environment chances are your already familiar with Nuthatches, members of the bird family Sittidae. Apparently the moniker of ‘nuthatch’ is, in part derived from an older English name of “nuthack”. Due to their habit of wedging nuts and other food in tree crevices before hacking them open with its long, sturdy bill. Click on image to see a larger version). Red breasted nuthatch climbing downward. February 15, 2014 at 9:11 AM.

Firewater: November 2009
http://fosterfanning.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 5, 2009. SALISH SEA: First proposed in 1990 as the official name for the grouping of Puget Sound, Strait of Georgia and Strait of Juan de Fuca. Salish refers to the Salishan languages spoken by many of the tribes in the area, collectively referred to as Coast Salish peoples. Board members approved the name to acknowledge the ecological continuum that spans the international boundary between Canada and the United States. See you on the Salish Sea. Links to this post. Thursday, July 23, 2009. Hwy 21 Truck rollover. Here are some images from the accident:. Above: Made for something of an ironic photo; the PASS WITH CARE highway sign caught up in the rear axle of the over-turned trailer. Fortunately road construction was underway and there was limited traffic on the highway. No other vehicle was involved in the accident. To keep traffic moving D.O.T. pilot vehicle leads traffic on old railroad grade bypassing the accident scene. Links to this post. FIREWATER Images now ...

Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Our departure was September 5. The day after my birthday and the day before Catherine’s. Usually we are on a month long sail cruise at this time of year but my injury took the option of the boat off the table – too much potential for less-than-light-duty activity. Saturday, February 15, 2014. A Warm January Visit to Wenatchee WA. Wenatchee Washington, named after the Wenatchi Indian tribe in the native language of Sahaptin means "river which comes from canyons". And appropriately so as Wenatchee is located along not only the banks of the mighty Columbia river for the entire city length, but a northwest portion of “The Apple Capital Of The World” is at the mouth of the Wenatchee River Canyon. Downtown Wenatchee looking from the Columbia River across town to the.
