Feminists for an independent socialist Scotland. A feminist analysis of the potentials and pitfalls of Scottish independence. There’s a new book out, you may have heard: Scottish Independence: A Feminist Response by Cat Boyd and Jenny Morrison. 8211; they have already had a launch in Edinburgh at the famous radical bookshop Word Power. And there is a Glasgow launch next week at Mono. I don’t agree with every single statement in it, most notably, as Jenny and I once spent a lunchtime arguing about, ...

linkshund: Why Is There a Fat Man at a Food Bank?
http://linkshund.blogspot.com/2013/10/why-is-there-fat-man-at-food-bank.html
Why Is There a Fat Man at a Food Bank? Categories alternatives to lying. Saw this in this week's Spectator. Thousand words and everything, cartoons like this give you an amazing insight into the Speccie. S mentality. The message of the joke itself is a fairly simple one:. Food bank' contains the word 'bank', which normally refers to the money, or occasionally blood, variety. There is a potentially humorous incongruence between these two senses of the word 'bank'. To 'cash' (i.e. money). It is absurd and ...

The Wonderful World of Sady Doyle. MY FEMINISM WILL BE INTERSECTIONAL OR IT WILL BE BULLSHIT! The shit puff pastry is every layer of fuck that goes on above me, below me, by my sides, all around me. And in this metaphorical puff pastry with multiple layers of excrement, I am the dulce de leche that is supposed to make it palatable so that someone else, more specifically the kyriarchy, can eat me. This past week I’ve been screaming this a lot. Because I like to play. Woman is the N* of the world. This one...

Freckled Fate: June 2012

Equal marriage, maybe. Recently I wrote to my MP - first on Twitter, then at his request, by email - to ask his position on equal marriage. Below is the text of my original email, and then his response – which was, to say the very least, disappointing in its lack of conviction. Richard Harrington, MP for Watford. Further to our brief conversation on Twitter I am writing as one of your constituents to find out more about your position on the subject of equal marriage. 8216;Marriage’ has been redefin...

Freckled Fate: Nobody asks for it
http://freckledfate.blogspot.com/2011/09/nobody-asks-for-it.html
Nobody asks for it. Like everyone else, I remember the moment very clearly. I was on MSN at work and the guy I was chatting to said “just heard a plane went into the World Trade Center? 8221; I imagined a light aircraft. I didn't imagine what followed. A co-worker asked me “are you ok? Rdquo; I slowly nodded. Tears standing unshed in my eyes. Stomach tied up in a tight knot. Trying to take it in. Of this attack, the unprecedented scale of it, was something nobody in her right mind could ever have imagined.

You're great, but I'm, um, just refreshing the, er, page. When I saw the article saying that online dating leaves middle-aged women in the 'wilderness'. I'm a veteran of online dating. I've been trying it off and on since I first divorced in my early 30s (ie, a long. Time ago). And I've been single for most of the time since then. Internet dating now – when I'm in my 40s, and when internet dating is much more mainstream – is a very different experience. This left me with two types of men: the younger men...
