In Search of la pura vida...: September 2009
http://blakesblogcostarica.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Friday, September 25, 2009. No, I´m not talking about myself. Amazingly, my meager Peace Corps living allowance covers the majority of my expenses and I haven´t had to plunder the savings (yet). By this title, I´m talking about the people in my site. Sometimes living here in the Costa Rican countryside everyone is so. So friendly, and so laid back that you forget about an important fact: They don´t really have much money.

Nutsedge Farm: January 2009
http://nutsedgefarm.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 22, 2009. Here we have an couple of shots including: Tilling in a rye and vetch cover crop to prepare for potato planting. Some evidence of deer intrusion. Site and greenhouse status. SNOW! Okay, it only flurried and none of it stuck, but we did get to see some flakes and for an extended period of time which is a big deal this far south! Brian C. Gandy. In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Getting down to the end. It’s been four eventful months since the last posting to this blog. When I began this page I was hoping to update it every couple of weeks or so, but I’ve found that’s easier said than done. Expect more news in your inbox as the project progresses. Every group has made a great effort. They are an extremely positive force in the development of San Cristóbal Norte and ...

In Search of la pura vida...: Quito to Riobamba
http://blakesblogcostarica.blogspot.com/2010/06/quito-to-riobamba.html
In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Thursday, June 24, 2010. I arrived to Quito one week ago in characteristic fashion, having not done any homework on Ecuador. I haven´t used a guidebook throughout the trip, relying instead on insights and recommendations from fellow travelers as I move along. I think Americans often think everyone south of Texas is a dark brown color and eats spicy food (i.e. like in Mexico). Actually I know this is true, because...The dynam...

In Search of la pura vida...: Climbing Chimborazo
http://blakesblogcostarica.blogspot.com/2010/07/climbing-chimborazo.html
In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Monday, July 5, 2010. Where the last blog left off I was commenting on my intent to summit the tallest peak in Ecuador, Volcano Chimborazo, at a height of 6300 meters. The climb happened.although not necessarily with the result I had imagined. On a Wednesday morning I walked into a local guide agency to try to find out how to climb the mountain. Our conversation went something like this:. Franklin, age 28, was an alpine guid...

In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Friday, July 30, 2010. Silver Mines and Salt Flats. I arrived to La Paz about two weeks ago, still shivering from the winds off Lake Titicaca, and with the added disappointment of being turned down from the first three hostals whose doors we knocked on. I can count on one hand the few people that I can handle traveling abroad with for prolonged periods of time. These are friends that I can arrange to meet with on a certa...

In Search of la pura vida...: Choquequirao and Machu Picchu
http://blakesblogcostarica.blogspot.com/2010/07/choquequirao-and-machu-picchu.html
In Search of la pura vida. Experiences of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Saturday, July 17, 2010. Choquequirao and Machu Picchu. You might be thinking. When thinking of Peru and the Incan civilization, most people instantly bring to mind Machu Picchu. Knowing this, my friends Kayla, Tamara, Farhat, and I contracted a guiding service a couple of months ago to lead us to the more removed Choquequirao. Normally we are pretty budget travelers, however, in this case we spared no expense. Our packs, sl...
