Allow user to connect to MySQL from anywhere. I needed to allow access to MySQL box from anywhere. I’m working off Ubuntu’s package, so ‘my.cnf’ is ‘/etc/mysql’. I was able to allow access from any network by editing ‘my.cnf’, changing:. Bind-address = 127.0.0.1. Bind-address = 0.0.0.0. Then save the file. The next thing is to connect to mysql:. Cannot set hostname on EC2. EC2 is a big ugly DHCP-based network. I can change my hosts file and that’s great I get the expected response when I hostname -f. Of course on reboot this goes away, which is ridiculous. Edit “/etc/rc.local” and simply add:. Hostname something.yourdomain.com. Be sure to add this before. This is a great article I’ve used a few times from Powercram – http:/ www.powercram.com/2009/07/connecting-to-aws-ec2-instance-linux.html. Then click Save Private Key. When PuTTYgen prompts you about saving the key without a passphrase. Save the key as. Next launch Putty to open an SSH session and tell Putty to use that PPK file — NOT the PEM file! Expand connection, SSH, and select Auth. Click the browse button. Server refused our key.
