One man ’s year-long journey through the world of baseball. And We Have A Record… maybe? If El Nuevo Herald. Can be trusted, the Boston Red Sox just obliterated the record international amateur signing bonus by inking Dominican SS/3B Michael Almanazar to a $3 million contract to open their 2007 signing season with a bang. Among other things, this ends the reign of Joel Guzman’s hold on the title, and the former Dodger turned Devil Rays farmhand will now almost certainly be relegated to obscurity. Will an...

One man ’s year-long journey through the world of baseball. BA’s pre-Signing Period Article. Chris Kline, over at BA, offers up a laundry list. Of top international guys available this year. When it comes to working the phones on the international guys, Kline’s the man. The article is subscriber-only, but offers up some interesting nuggets I feel ok about reproducing here. Most notably, this piece of information:. The development of the international market and the closing of the gap in pricetags between...

Friday, March 16, 2007. In past years, I made various promises as to the visual direction of the site. This would be the year I learned html, or hooked into WordPress, or did something else to get away from the stock grey and black of the Blogger template. The day for that change has finally come, albeit in a roundabout way. Mariner Minors Most Valuable Network. Posted by Jay Y. @ 4:31 PM. Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Triu, Phillips in the Times. Saturday, January 31, 2004. There won't be any more prospect rankings for a while, unless I come up with my own. We're still waiting on Top Prospect Alert and Baseball America, which is currently reviewing college baseball. For those unfamiliar with WHIP, it's nothing too complex, just hits plus walks divided by total innings pitched. Sort of a OBP for pitchers. Name Age IP H BB WHIP. Taylor, Aaron 26 40.1 30 13 1.07. Putz, J.J. 27 86 69 34 1.20. Looper, Aaron 27 75.1 72 26 1.30. Name Age IP H BB WHIP.

Friday, November 05, 2004. What ever happened to the Little Unit? It being the news-deficient time of the year, Jim Street tries to get the scoop. Time is running out on Ryan Anderson. Ah, how many times I've heard that. In more seriousness, it appears that RA has finally developed a work ethic and is looking to make a comeback. I've heard that he was throwing in the mid 90s towards the end of the year and could've gotten into a game in Arizona, but they didn't want to push him too much. 27, was nothing ...

Saturday, April 17, 2004. The PCL is naming the Tuscon/Tacoma series this weekend their series of the week. Friday, February 13, 2004. Well, FoxSports.com has finally hit a Mariners prospect in their top 100, this time at number 58. But the name may surprise you. 58 Clint Nageotte, RHP, Mariners, Age: 23. This ranking is curious, it makes one wonder when or if Blackley or Lopez will show up if Nageotte is usually considered to be the better prospect. In unrelated notes, V-Day is tomorrow, and if you're single, or have a dark sense of humor, or both, like me, then check this good stuff out. 28 1B AA 447 .396.
