One of the most interesting things is that Takemoto is the narrator, the most accessible character, in the whole series and he eludes the audience for so long and so well. Of course, we're following his thoughts where even he can't realize what's going on with himself. Takemoto lives to be unoffensive so no one looks to him and see this whole person - It's all very unconscious.

SINCE I AM THREADING AND DISCUSSING THIS: Why I took Takemoto from where I did and my thoughts on his development, etc. If anyone is interested in where he's from specifically? It's before he sees the North Star train. I can't really pin down the realization that dawned on him, but he found himself in a way by chasing after that train. Somehow, tracing back to his father and seeing it all laid out for him like that just changed everything.
