Snake Guides: June 2014
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 29, 2014. The river dropped to the high 10,000's and I couldn't take it anymore. I shot out a few emails and got a bite from EB who said he had some things to do but that he'd meet me at the ramp. I probably should have called him before I left because as it happened he followed me out to the river and showed up only 15 minutes after I got there. So it was two cars instead of one.Good thing this is 'merica and we have unlimited fossil fuels at our disposal. Or not. Links to this post. Labels...

Snake Guides: November 2014
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 9, 2014. Not because I have been lazy and too "busy" to write. It's because this is a fly fishing blog and there has been no fly fishing. There is an upside. I've watched my girls play some great soccer and work is going well. It has been awhile. We pulled into "the" campground as the light was falling. In the deep gray November evening we saw only one other tent.a nylon version, perched lonely and coldly deep into one of the campsites. Warm in temperature and ambiance, the outside world...

Snake Guides: August 2014
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 13, 2014. The guy's name is Luke and his photography is pretty sweet. He has a style that appeals to him.and I agree. Not the least important element of his images are the settings where he pulls the trigger, capturing on digital files some of the places that I haunt and some that I just want to. It didn't take long in the small Midwestern fly fishing circles for our paths to cross. He left me with an invitation to call him when I got up his way. I thanked my wife for the shuttle and of...

Snake Guides: March 2015
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 21, 2015. Carp Patrol (with backup). I headed back out to the flats under high sun and more wind that I wanted. MK joined me which was nice since it's way easier to fish with two guys in the boat, the boat poles cleaner and the another set of eyes on the water is worth it's weight in gold. We tried fishing blind for a few half hearted minutes and then circled around to the clear water where we spotted a fish, gave chase and MK got off a couple of shots before it vanished. I was thinking a...

Sunday, July 19, 2015. Kyle called me for a repeat. He said Mark couldn't make it. I called and texted for a third (you know who you are) but nobody could make it. If laughter is the best medicine and your time spent fishing isn't deducted from your allotted time on earth.after tonight, I am eternal. Messin Around in Boats. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Snake Guides: January 2015
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 3, 2015. Bamboo Fly Rods and The Don. It's January 3rd 2015 and I am standing in the inner sanctum.the workshop of one of the world's premier makers of bamboo fly rods. My first fish on a bamboo rod.a sweet little Charlie Jenkins on loan for a few casts from McSteel. (Circa 1997? McSteel releases a nice brown. (Circa 1999). Without pausing he said, "Yes I am sure.that rod used to be my Dad's.". So I bought it. The Orvis Manchester (middle rod - Circa 1998). I'm pretty sure I said out lo...

Snake Guides: April 2014
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 26, 2014. It was a day when there were other things three guys could. Be doing with their time. Butit also happened to be the only day this spring when the clouds cleared, the sun shone and it seemed fluttering caddis were inevitable. We had exchanged a few messages through the normal circuitous means (remember when you'd just call somebody? And each reached a level of green light clearance after each doing that dance and barter thing we all hate to admit we do, but do. We wadered up, and...

Snake Guides: Happy 3rd of July!
http://snakeguides.blogspot.com/2015/07/we-rolled-into-in-laws-this-afternoon.html
Saturday, July 4, 2015. Happy 3rd of July! We rolled into the in-laws this afternoon. I was running though the Independence Day weekend itinerary with my brother-in-law and it was decided that tonight. Would be the only shot at hex'n for walleyes. Normally we miss dinner and hit the lake early, sunburn in the heat of evening sunset and wait for the mosquitoes to drop in. Tonight, dinner was on the table at 7:30. We dined on walleye (what else? Perfectly still, calm, perfect. The first hex popped and stal...
