Shocked | Heather Bruce
https://heatherbruce.wordpress.com/2014/06/12/shocked
Culture shock is a term used constantly in the international development community, particularly for international volunteer-sending programs. This term is used to describe the experience of someone entering a culture different from their own and the shock they experience attempting to understand and make sense of the cultural norms of their host country that differ from their native country. And THAT shocked me. Time to buy a coat. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. June 12, 2014.
Gritty City | Heather Bruce
https://heatherbruce.wordpress.com/2014/08/16/gritty-city
I needed a break. It had been a hectic month with reports and events at SWAGAA and a volunteer arriving every weekend from Canada. I hadn’t had a day off in weeks and found myself working evenings and constantly in response mode. I was enjoying the work, but was burning out. After some intense (and teary) moments at the office of home affairs, I got my residence permit and was able to go on an adventure! I will definitely be back in Joburg, and I can’t wait to see what I discover next! You are commenting...
Doing Things | Heather Bruce
https://heatherbruce.wordpress.com/2014/09/03/doing-things
After a long and exhausting week of proposal writing, this long weekend couldn’t have come at a better time. It was time to DO things, and I had amazing people to do things with. We managed to catch a glimpse of elephants, impalas, giraffes, zebras and rhinos! The surprise was how I fell in love with the rhinos. They are stumpy, grumpy looking things but boy are they funny! The day was topped off with a delicious meal in Simunye and a sleepy car ride home. I loved the pictures of the animals!
