http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2014/09/middle-sister-came-into-town-and-wanted.html
Sunday, September 14, 2014. Middle sister came into town and wanted to take me out for a belated birthday dinner. She's a gluten free vegetarian and after she did a little "what's new in food in vancouver" and discovered Ask for Luigi and that they offered a g-free pasta option. The menu is fairly short and sweet with about 10 appetizers and 5-6 different pastas. And they all sound fairly delicious. Unfortunately, the options were pretty limited in terms of vegetarian options that they could make...Appet...

Life Bites: April 2014
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 19, 2014. Wayward Vegan Cafe in Seattle. I'm a big fan of "experience" or "activities" as gifts. This year, for Christmas, my little sister and I told my dad we wanted to treat him to a day trip to Seattle to visit the Experience Music Project and Sci Fi Museum. This a pretty casual place; you place your order at the front counter, bus your own dishes, refill your own water, etc. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito. Scrambled seasoned tofu, spicy tvp chorizo and spinach wrapped up in a king-s...

Life Bites: Banh Mi Crawl- Kim Saigon Sandwiches/Golden Garden Vietnamese
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2014/11/banh-mi-crawl-kim-saigon.html
Saturday, November 8, 2014. Banh Mi Crawl- Kim Saigon Sandwiches/Golden Garden Vietnamese. This is a much belated food crawl post, but putting this together has been a delicious stroll down memory lane. In March 2014, four of us crawled the city tasting Banh Mi sandwiches. I first fell in love with Banh Mi’s when I lived near Fraser and Kingsway. This post sums up our first stop on this food crawl. Kim Saigon Sandwiches/ Golden Garden Vietnamese. 5 Chicken Bahn Mi. I also have to admit I had a big evenin...

Life Bites: May 2014

Friday, May 23, 2014. Farmer's Apprentice for Lunch. I was planning a work lunch meet up with a colleague from out of town and a fellow local food enthusiast. When she suggested Farmer’s Apprentic. The room is cozy, seating roughly 30 inside with an inviting 12 seat patio. Ceilings are low, wood is mismatched, and the space feels modern and yet rustic at the same time. There is a casual vibe here. This was a long lunch and over the course of our meal we had mixed feelings about service. There were a ...

Life Bites: Cinco De Mayo at Tacomio
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2015/05/cinco-de-mayo-at-tacomio.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Cinco De Mayo at Tacomio. I had a lunch date set up with some lady friends from the last series I worked on. The lunch date happened to be on May 5, Cinco de Mayo, so I suggested we go for tacos in the gastown/Chinatown ‘hood. We decided to go check out a relatively new taco joint, Tacomio. The staff is super friendly and I loved that they were celebrating Cinco de Mayo, offering complimentary strawberry tequila popsicles and hibiscus drinks. I liked their recycled cardboard ta...

Life Bites: Bao Down
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2015/05/bao-down.html
Thursday, May 21, 2015. Some work buddies and I saw an article about this place opening soon and knew we had a lunch date to plan. When I read about the concept, bao-steamed rice buns stuffed with tasty sounding fillings, my mouth started to water. The space is a 2-floor set up with counter seating on the main floor and a few small tables on the 2. Floor Here you’ll pay for your meal before getting a number and finding a seat. It can get quite busy in this 25ish seating restaurant. I had 2 Bao, the Vevo.

Life Bites: August 2014
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 1, 2014. Eating my way through Edmonton in July. I visited Edmonton in May and was wowed with some amazing meals and super impressed with the city’s enthusiastic, energetic, and delicious food scene. Work brought me back to YEG in July. It was a crazy, busy, work trip but I always seem to be able to find time to seek out good food. Because no matter how busy things get, life is too short to eat average or boring food. Lemon-Caper Sauce; with cucumber salad and warm potatoes. This seemingly...

Life Bites: February 2014
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Taco Crawl (Part 4) La Mezcaleria. The next stop on our taco crawl adventure took us east, to Commercial Drive to La Mezcaleria. Fraser Valley duck confit, guava, fruit mole sauce (manchamanteles), chayote squash and radish- $10 for 2 ….BUT the key question was heading into this establishment was… could a tostado qualify as a taco? The Food Crawl basics:. Let the adventure continue! Obviously, this joint was my pick of the evening. Remember that bit about whether a tostada cou...

Life Bites: October 2013
http://lifebitesmm.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 27, 2013. My first experience at Fable. Was lunch. I had an awesome Eggplant Parmesan sandwich with walnut pesto, pea shoots, pickled onion and raita sauce with a masala spiced soup. Months later, I was treated to a belated birthday brunch. That was equally awesome. When I got an email about a work-related dinner at Fable, I was excited to round out the meal "trifecta. ". 8232;Chickpea Fritter ($9): Pickled red onion, shoots, curry mayo and pea shoots. We ordered a round of desserts after...
