Kona Trip 2008: Snorkeling
http://kona-2008.blogspot.com/2008/09/snorkeling.html
My first trip to the Big Island of Hawaii to race in the Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Race. Monday, September 1, 2008. We brought gear with us and snorkeled around the Capt. Cook monument. It was my first attempt at snorkeling and it was a lot of fun! Since I had my camera, which goes underwater, I took a bunch of shots - it was hard to see the screen underwater and through the snorkel gear, so I just guessed at the shots - here are a few:.

The whole crew - including Jane, who helped coach the guys across the channel, and Wayne (with Martha slightly hidden) a great escort boat driver!

Hawaii Trip 2008: Hula
http://molokai-2008.blogspot.com/2008/10/hula.html
Our annual trip to Hawaii for the Molokai Hoe Outrigger Race. Friday, October 10, 2008. We brought Barry, Louise and Anja down to Kuhio Beach (near the Duke Kahanamoku statue) to see the sunset hula show. Holly took a couple of shots with my camera - we brought our old digital camera (that I had given Holly a couple of months ago), but she didn't use it during the trip. Another gorgeous Waikiki sunset.

Hawaii Trip 2010: Mauna Kea
http://hawaii-trip-2010.blogspot.com/2010/10/to-mauna-kea.html
Our first family trip to the Big Island and back to Oahu for the Molokai race. Thursday, October 7, 2010. We decided to drive back to Kona via Route 200, or "Saddle Road". I tried to research the road, but couldn't find anything on the internet regarding its name. I believe it's called Saddle Road because it goes up between the 2 large volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, and then comes back down as it crosses the island - hence sitting like a "saddle" between the two mountains. Our day in Hawaii. Waterma...

Hawaii Trip 2008: Hilton Hawaiian Village
http://molokai-2008.blogspot.com/2008/10/hilton-hawaiian-village.html
Our annual trip to Hawaii for the Molokai Hoe Outrigger Race. Sunday, October 12, 2008. We decided to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for one night after the race, since the finish line is right here and we've never stayed here before. We were lucky enough to get one of the rooms at the paddlers' rate and even got upgraded to a "partial ocean view" room. You could see the small lagoon and ocean off to the left when you were out on the lanai (balcony).

Kona Trip 2008: August 2008
http://kona-2008.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
My first trip to the Big Island of Hawaii to race in the Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Race. Sunday, August 31, 2008. We went to the Royal Kona Resort for drinks and appetizers (pupu's) at Don the Beachcomber's Mai Tai Bar. It's right on the water (the white building that looks like it is sliding into the ocean) and has a great view of the sunset. I had to take a shot of the fish on Torey's kitchen wall - they're so cool! Torey - a self portrait? I'll have to ask her! Sunday races involve double hull canoes ...
